Cirrhosis + Covid = ?

I have PBC that had developed into cirrhosis (compensated) by the time I was diagnosed. I'm a little concerned about what will happen if I get Covid. I've read that things like a virus or even food poisoning could tip me over into decompensated cirrhosis. (I wish I'd kept the articles I read about this but I didn't...)

I'm double vaccinated and had a booster too. I'm living like a hermit. But after Omnicron hit, our provincial health minister said that everybody can expect to get Covid at some point.

There is no simple answer to this, as it depends on your individual circumstances.

I can say, it's not necessarily doom and gloom. I was discharged decompensated and warned if I get covid it would likely kill me. A week later, I got COVID and the worst symptom was a sore throat and a mild cough.

It's good that you are vaccinated, as that should help should the worst happen.

Well, that's kind of encouraging news. I'm glad you're ok! I do realize it's going to be hard to predict what happens if I get it. Thanks for your answer.

Thank you for your reply, Yvonne. It's reassuring. I know a few people who have had the Omnicron variant and the symptoms were mild. I know what you meant about living your life no matter what but there are things I wanted to do (such as travel) that I dare not do now.

Islandanonymous I am in the exact same boat that you are in. When discussing things that could further damage my liver with my specialist the first thing she said was Covid. I'm not sure if it is the virus or the treatment for it.

I think it is the Delta variant that we liver sufferers have to worry about and it is still floating around among the many omicron cases.

I feel like the boy in the bubble but I do go for walks outside for sanity and excercise and go to stores rarely with an N95 mask. Currently I work remote because no one in my huge open concept office wears masks. Last week they had 122 cases of covid at my place of work. People in the States have no idea what they are doing when it comes to controlling this virus. My state in particular has huge concerts, attracts people from all over the world etc.. Masks are optional in my state and believe me 98% don't wear them.

Today I actually have to meet with HR AGAIN to discuss continuing remote work. They hate it that I'm not in the office even though everything I do can be done from home as a digital marketer. I have a note from my physician like I did last time stating I'm immune compromised and HAVE to work from home but here in the states they could technically can me if I'm given the ultimatum and refuse.

I wish you the best my friend!

Thank you for replying, pushthrough. Your situation sounds particularly scary. In my case, at least I live in an area where there's a very low incidence of Covid and people are good about masking up. I was assuming that the Omnicron variant has taken over but probably nobody knows for sure. I must admit that I fear what else may come down the pike.

That is just terrible that you could be fired for refusing to work in the office. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you that you're allowed to continue working from home. Please let us know how it works out.

All the best to you as well!

Hello Island, I just got great news that I can telecommute indefinitely at my place of work!

Fantastic news! Glad to hear they're being humane. That should take a load off your mind!

It certainly will. The last big meeting had 30 people in it and only 2 had masks. I found it so crazy I took a screenshot for future generations. Lol.

Wow, that's unbelievable! That's so different from the way things are being treated where I live.

It sounds like the variants that are currently circulating are less serious than in the beginning of Covid. I have decided to stop worrying about it. Things are opening up here in Canada.
