Cirrhosis definition

Hi all

I know some if you follow the Fart Liver Foundation and will have received the latest update today.

It is written by Wayn Eskridge and explains how they are trying to get early testing and spread the word about fatty liver- excellent work.

However, the screenshot below shows a definition of cirrhosis I had never come across.

Do you consider cirrhosis to be terminal? I have always used the term life limiting because nobody knows how much time we lose.

It threw me a bit and wondered what you all thought.

Hi Rita,

My son has cirrhosis on less than a quarter of his liver which is my interest on this site. The explanation is a bit black and white don't you think! I'm 70 with heart and arthritis probs either of which may kill me and take me with them! I would agree with you, limiting but liveable if you are careful. Trust a scientist to get a nasty turn. I wonder if he had an illness which was life limiting if he would give up and die!!! The minds a wondrous thing don't you think! Avril

Hi Jazz

I agree it is black and white and a bit stark.

Given the work the foundation do I guess its meant to shock people into getting tgeir livers checked and take care with them. He is a really nice guy who cares about patients.

I always associated terminal with maybe 12 months left and I think that's what threw me.

I hope your son continues to have 75% of his liver healthy, that certainly sounds good to me

75% healthy is great. I’m only a 20% person myself.

Perhaps if we all joined our livers together we would get a truly healthy one to share

I know Wayne, he has got himself back into very healthy condition after being diagnosed. I shouldnt think twice about this statement . Being born is terminal . Lol. I know people who have lived for 20/30 years with cirrhosis . We all are going to die , me I will probably still have cirrhosis and get run over by a bus !!!

Hi Bermuda1

I am also in his group on here and as I said hi think he's a really nice guy who truly cares about people. Say hi to him from me next time you speak to him.

I was just interested to hear if it was a term anyone else had heard associated with cirrhosis as I hadn't.

I'm not off booking a wooden box or anything 😂

My consultant wrote the I definatly have cirrhosis but it should have little impact on my life expectancy.

As long as I stick to the rules 🤔 it "should" not be a terminal illness.

Hi Roy

It certainly confirms my theory that it is a shock tactic, for want of a better term, to wake the general population up about the need to take care of their livers.

I have no intention of letting it beat me, I'm too stubborn to lose this battle.
