Dark urine : Is everyone's urine dark... - British Liver Trust
Dark urine
Possible reasons for dark colored urine include:
Dehydration – The darker the urine, the more dehydrated you might be.
Eating certain foods like rhubarb, aloe and fava beans.
B Vitamins – Although this typically results in bright orange urine.
Medications like rifampin, pyridium, laxatives with cascara or senna, sulfasalazine, some chemotherapy drugs, medications for malaria such as primaquine and chloroquine, the antibiotics nitrofurantoin and metronidazole, and methocarbamol.
Urinary Tract Infection.
Kidney Problem.
Treatment
Self-treatment: Self- care steps that may be helpful in some less- serious cases:
Hydrotherapy - Drink enough water or fluids
Avoid exposure to heat for prolonged periods
Rest for a day if you are feeling weak or feverish
Increase Vitamin C in diet
Do not hold urine for too long
See a doctor if you notice:
Continues to be dark in spite to drinking enough water
Causes pain while urination
See a doctor immediately if you notice:
Blood in the urine
Fever & chills
Severe pain while passing urine
Yellowing of the skin or eyes
If none of these six possible causes of dark urine are applicable, liver function might be compromised.
Dark Urine in liver disease can be as dark as cola coloured and you need some blood tests to see what's going on.
Katie
As Katie has said there are several possible causes. Perhaps you can take a sample to your GP to be tested - they may do a simple dipstick test which will show if there is blood/protein etc in the urine. Of note - blood in the urine doesn't necessarily look red - it can look brown too. Certainly worth a conversation with your |GP if there is no obvious cause and it continues.

No brown urine is not normal.
