Anybody on any sort of statins alternative? I've just been for a health check and the nurse said I should be on statins for my cholesterol , but would have to check with a GP as I have liver disease.. Quick Google says statins plus liver disease is a no no, so any alternatives out there?

Hi fatha. I was put on Ezetimibe after my previous statin caused my liver function tests to go into a complete tail spin. I was put on Ezetimibe and have now had Colesevelam added to try and bring down my cholesterol. Perhaps read up on these alternatives and speak to your GP? Best wishes
My son takes plant sterols and fish oil. Both recommended by guys Dr. But check with your Dr. Raw garlic that has been smashed and left to sit for a good 10 minutes to activate the alicine (sp) is also supposed to be good. But the best is getting rid of fried food and red meat. My son won't completely do that... So🤷
If the Dr. says Statins why go using Google ? Much of my legitimately prescribed immunosuppressants and ancillary meds say not for use with liver disease - but I trust my transplant team more than some Google Quack nonsense. The leaflets that come with most meds are generic and the producers have to cover themselves. Listen to your qualified medical team.
Think you misunderstood..I'm waiting on my GP and of course I'm going to follow their advice..They haven't said statins, the nurse said she would need to inform the Dr/GP of my cholesterol but was speculating that they may not go with statins because of my liver.
Okay guessing you aren't in the UK then? When I say I'm waiting on my GP to see what they are going to prescribe , GP stands for General Praticioner or "doctor"..The nurse just said she would advise the GP of my cholesterol but they may not go with statins due to my liver (just realised I've now typed that explanation three times)..The nurse was never going to prescribe meds she was always going through the GP..Mind there are UK nurses doing examinations and prescribing meds they are called nurse practitioners
I am in London and have unfortunately, very many years experience of different hospitals, procedures and medical hierarchy. I do know about nurse practitioners that's why I said "nurses" not "nurse practioners" so please don't patronise anyone on this forum offering advice.
