High cholesterol and ALT

Hi started a new post rather than hijacking a previous one.

I had a blood test about two months ago which showed high cholesterol of 8.9. As a result I had a liver panel which showed ALT of 352. Sure other numbers we talked about but it was the alt that was most concerning and the only number I can remember. Still waiting to see the consultant, managed to get a phone appt on Monday. No symptoms at all, nothing that bothers me anyway. Am I doomed? What alt has anyone else had here? I’m told it’s really high? For last month I’ve been trying to be ultra healthy, lots of fruit and veg, walnuts, beetroot, water. Zero alcohol etc. Lost a stone in weight (now around 12.5 stone) anything else I should do? Is it bad?

This is one of my main concerns, my cholesterol has gone up from 5.? to 7.9 in 6 months. I have cut out all alcohol and eating healthy, exercise. My Gastro wasn’t concerned for my worries about liver under performing. I think I have read where alt isn’t necessarily liver specific but there are more knowledgable people on here who could help you with that. You’ve no symptoms, to me that’s everything and you’re doing all the right things, especially giving the booze a swerve. Good luck.

Hi Woodland,

Try not to jump to any conclusions just yet. There's a million and one things I'm sure you can find on the Internet it could be, lol. I'm sure they'll even be something somewhere saying that it'll be caused by a Bill Gates Microchip you were unwittingly injected with as a small child 🤣🤣.

There's clearly something not quite right to get to the bottom of. It may be something relatively simple. Unfortunately, it'll need that further work up to be a bit clearer.

Hope all goes well and good luck.

Thanks, would be great to hear anyone else who have been there. Is it always bad news? Can I turn it around from these high numbers, anyone else had higher and been able to reverse it?

If its something treatable then its certainly possible.

Had my phone appointment today, didn’t sound too concerned, repeating blood tests plus a couple of extras and also on the waiting list for a fibroscan- not sure how long the wait is.

Well just had a fibroscan, results look great to me, cap of 160 and 5.8 fibrosis score. Think these are good for a 48 year old. Still no wiser why my bloods are so persistently high. Last ALT was 350.. hopefully consultant week after next may have some ideas.
