Hello, me again.🙄

I went to Birmingham yesterday to see the Addiction psychologist and a consultant that I had never seen before. Psychologist was great and positive. She said that she now understands how I feel towards alcohol but I still have to work with talking therapy group.

The Dr made me feel dreadful. He was horrid, asked how much l was still drinking, did I have anything to confess and because he wanted a urine sample and my bloods to test for booze. Fair enough, however his lack of empathy and good bedside manner made me so angry. He was not kind and helpful,

Just what you need hey!

Outcome, well I am here 😜😻

Best wishes to you all. Michelle

That’s awful. As though you don’t feel bad enough about past drinking. You’re dealing with the consequences now, every day. Everybody makes mistakes, even him. I can understand how much you hate alcohol now and it must must be hurtful having someone accuse you of not moving on and trying to turn your life around. Alcohol isn’t important to you, just getting better and a normal life is.

Whilst I understand that it would have been a difficult appointment for you, please bear in mind that the vast majority of problem drinkers are accomplished liars, when it comes to talking about their drinking to doctors.

It’s the sad reality but hold your head up and stick with it because your tests will show that you are being honest and hopefully you will see a positive shift in your treatment. I wish you every success in moving forward.

Hey Michelle,

Brilliant to hear you found the psychologist helpful. Have you been to the talking therapy group yet?

There's no excuse for treating people like that. Can imagine that puts a lot of people off continuing to seek help. Was he your own GP? You could maybe ask to be seen by someone else. I think if you try and be confident in yourself - focus on getting the help you deserve and take what you need from that one. Ignore his negativity. No doubt there will be people at the talking group who have come across daft attitudes and can share some tips on how to approach it.

Bestest of wishes,

Kx

That is terrible, I am so glad you had a better experience and hopefully felt supported, Take care, always remember we are all human we have all made mistakes, what we don't want is persecuting when we are actively trying so very hard to recover from the devastating effects of alcohol, xx
