Ultrasound results show a coarse echo texture in keeping with cirrhotic changes. Does this mean I definitely have cirrhosis?

Please help. I'm new here

Hi and welcome,
Your doctor and medical team will look at the Ultrasound Scan report, blood tests, possibly additional scans and your medical and lifestyle history before making a complete diagnosis.
When are you next due to speak to your doctor? If you are in the UK, you are welcome to call our nurse helpline and we can have a supportive chat. 0800 652 7330 Mon to Fri 10am to 3pm
Best wishes.

Hi thank you for replying. I am awaiting results of blood tests for hepatitis and also an appointment for a fibroscan. I had raised liver function blood tests following an over 50's health check. Have no health conditions am a healthy weight with good diet and this has come out of the blue. sonographer told me I had a fatty liver but no scarring and not to worry. Is he the one who sends report to Dr or is it also looked at by somebody else first?
The sonographer will send to your GP. If you want to have a chat do call the helpline and we can discuss.
If you have told you have fatty liver, do check if its Non Alcohol Related Fatty Liver (NAFLD) and here is our info about it;

Fibroscan will give more clinical info about
any stage of fibrosis ( stiffening)

Is it possible that my GP was a little premature in telling me that I do have cirrhosis if I have not yet had further blood test results or fibroscan? By the way I only drink alcohol maybe twice a year. Birthday and Xmas.
We cannot comment on what a clinician says. They have access to your medical notes and have a greater understanding of your tests.

Thank you, I understand. I would be grateful if you can advise if cirrhosis can be diagnosed just from an ultrasound.
As already suggested, any liver diagnosis is made from a combination of investigations - imaging (scans) . blood tests, fibrosis monitoring and clinical history . Whilst one test may be an indicator- it does not give the full diagnosis.
We would encourage you to seek further assessment with all the test information available for a comprehensive, accurate diagnosis .

Thanks. I feel a little easier now.
