Just found out my GGT is 1300. Read the bit about the bloke who's was 180. I take it I'm screwed. The thing is I have an Asian Doctor who doesn't believe I don't drink. I have a secular lifestyle. What else can cause this? He just tells me you are lying to me it's alcohol. So i'm F""""D.

Get a new doctor and report the matter.

Hi Crow

Listen to Snoutie’s advice.

And, come on, does the ethnicity of the doctor really matter? I don’t think so.

You may not think so but mine does I'm Scottish of course I drink.

I think you may have missed the point! But ne’er mind 😁

I have the, as yet to be discovered, Scottish drinking gene. It also comes with the discovered Celtic type B blood. Do everything you can, including abstinence, to avoid needing a transplant. Type B is a long wait. Your Doctor may well have type B.

My goodness snoutie - that was convoluted (yes I do mean convoluted), but I worked out, eventually, what you were saying in your circumbendibus way 😁

Didn’t Boris sell them?

I get your other replies 😁but not this one....😐

Miles,

Ammonia levels, residual HE? Bendibus, they replaced the Routemaster. Boris sold them in yet another self promotional move.

Mark.

My hubbie was vey ill. The only indication that it was liver related, was a very high ggt.all other enzymes ok.

Saw an endocrinologist who beleived he was t total. She booked a scan.shocked at the results of cirrhosis.turned out when having a biopsy that he had a hereditary condition known as alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency. Transplanted 7 years ago. Keep pushing and insisting you dont drink.

High ggt can also be related to other health issues.

What area do you live in?

Thank you for your reply been in touch with my mum for the first time in years. She told me that on her family side there is a huge problem with iron levels. Could this be worth looking at?

Wow yes there is definitely an issue here. There are several hereditary reasons for high iron issues.you need to try and find out if any of the family got a diagnosis.

If you cant you need to follow this up with a liver specialist.what area do you live in?

I live in 2 or 3 places where ever the fancy takes me but generally in Ayrshire. Does that make a difference?

As much as a 1300 GGT is not normal. One cant diagnosis anything based off that alone. Some looking deeper is required. A check of iron levels seem appropriate if there is a history of potential hemochromatosis. Your doctor seems to be not listening to you and is making assumptions about who you are. The fact that hes Asian is irrelevant since there are doctors like that of all different backgrounds.

Yeah Fair play. Was a bit of a bawbag saying that. I will apologise to him when I see him next.

Hi Crawford, I'd definitely ask to see a different Dr, explain the hereditary iron levels and insist on a full iron panel blood test, as that needs investigating. Good luck. 🙂
