Hi there.Your gp should refer you to see a hepatologist.St Vincent's Hospital ,Dublin are main centre for hepatology and liver transplants.Really good team there, treat people from all over Ireland .My mother was under their care pre and post liver transplant. Ring the hospital and ask to speak to liver coordinator nurse team for advise and they will direct you.All the best

Thanks very much for the reply. I was with the team in ST. Vincents (I spent 6 weeks in the transplant unit) but since I have been discharged I have seen no one and had nothing but 2 phone calls from them as follow up in the 4 months I have been home. I am looking for a private Hepatologist, one who specializes in auto immune hepatitis and who I can make an appointment with and visit when I want to or call when I have worries or questions. The team in Vincents do not even answer my emails so I have no go to person and unfortunately my GP isnt very familiar with this condition. Anyway thanks again for your help Best Wishes

M

Sorry to hear about the lack of communication from the team at St Vincent's. Do you think Covid pandemic has caused lack of face to face outpatient appts? Hope you get some care soon. All the best

Hi again I dont doubt that the pandemic has affected the way people are seen or not seen face to face but a phone call or answering an email doesn't put anyone at risk. I wrote to them recently asking for advice on the risks of getting vaccinated as I was really frightened in case it would have an adverse effect on my liver and they didnt acknowledge or reply to my email.

This is why I am looking for someone out side a hospital setting.

anyway , thanks again for your help

Best regards

M

Could you not see one of the St Vincent's docs privately?

I dont know. I have been home since mid January and very ill most of the time up until recently coinciding with the reduction in Steroid dose. A member of the team from the hospital rang me just twice since I have been home and I didnt think to ask if they had private consults. It certainly is an avenue worth exploring as I would then have access to some advice and support when I needed it. Thank you very much for the suggestion Best Regards
