I have cirrhosis and the ongoing stuff with it. I was on Omeprazole and Spironolactone. Told I was on it for life. No problem. But after a recent gastroscopy I was put on Carvedilol. I had dreadful side effects. Plummeting blood pressure and no appetite. I have barely eaten for over a week. I have spoken to my GP, the pharmacist and the hospital. No-one seems to take my concerns seriously. I’m really not sure where to go next.
Has anyone else struggled with carvedilol?

Spoke to a nurse at the hospital who said she would get the consultant to call. I’m not holding my breath! My last blood pressure (taken at the hospital) was 118/75 which I thought was fine but I started to feel dizzy, sick etc within a couple of days of taking the tablets so bought a bp machine. It was horribly low. I couldn’t stand up without the world going black. I had months of feeling really well so this is a real downer. 😔😷
Hi Cobwebs, I'm sorry that you are feeling so unwell. While you are waiting for your consultant to call, would you feel able speaking to your GP again, or emailing them your concerns? They may be able to offer some guidance or reach out to your specialist team. I hope you feel better soon,Take care,
Appointment for phone consultation with pharmacist on Wednesday. Phoned 111 and they contacted my doctor. Spoke to a nurse at the hospital who didn’t have a clue what I was on about which is, I think, why she asked the consultant to call. I have met most of the consultants and they are lovely (except one!) so either the message wasn’t passed on or they are very busy.
I used to have psoriasis but it had been clear for months. I now have hot, prickly patches on my back and the backs of my legs. So, along with the dizziness, I would say it would this is a side effect! I am due a phone-call from my gastroenterologist on Tuesday so went through the Carvedilol leaflet and underlined anything that seemed applicable. Armed with this I hope I can speak up rather than just blindly accepting everything he says. I would recommend a blood pressure monitor for peace of mind. But definitely talk to your consultant because surely the dizziness is quite dangerous. Take care. Deb. 😷
Thank you!! Interesting I feel like sometimes I have like burning patches on my back??? Can you relate? I have a blood pressure machine,it’s normal low!
