Looking for tips to rid toxins from my liver and excercise to keep me mobile.

I got diagnosed with decompensated liver, upper GI bleed in November 2020, I also caught COVID whilst in hospital so I am struggling to work out which part is long COVID or stage stage 4 liver disease.i am struggling with memory problems and sleep.

Usually you'd be prescribed Lactulose possibly in conjunction with Rifaximin for toxin build up and treatment of potential Hepatic Encephalopathy.

Light walking is excellent exercise and you can gradually build up as you go.

Best wishes, Katie

The only word of caution I would add to Katie's comments is to be wary of certain liver detox supplements that are advertised on Amazon and online.

These products have little or no medical value. They can be brought online from some rather unscrupulous traders. Although these websites may look very professional and make bold claims, care is required. These products should be avoided. Sadly there is no such thing as a wonder cure for liver disease, (not yet anyway).

Hi Tia,

We would agree with Richards comment, be careful of any products/supplements online that promise to detoxify or flush out your liver. The best ways to help your liver when you have cirrhosis is to have a balanced nutritional diet with no alcohol. Here is our webpage on Complementary & Alternative Medicines (CAM) for info:

Have you spoken to your own liver specialist about your recent memory problems and other symptoms? They may also be able to advise you on appropriate exercise to keep mobile and well.

Keep us posted.

Hope you’re having restful sleep. I’m awake as usual. Will be out for walk later, smile plastered on face but very afraid for Wednesday when I have scan and know I will be diagnosed. Hope you don’t have many symptoms. Mine are terrible constipation as main worry, blurry vision and a bit weak in the mornings which improves by lunchtime, what are yours?

I have got what seems like permanent headache, brain fog isn't in it, poor mobility, nausea, I'm drinking water, eating healthy, it's hard to tell which is Liver Disease or long COVID as I had both at the hospital, my sleep isn't good either, I get to have a telephone consultation at the end of this month so fingers crossed I will have some answers , Good luck with getting your diagnosis, I think maybe I over did it a couple of days ago. X

I feel worse first thing. Shaky, weak. As day goes on I feel better. Are your joints stiff that you can’t walk?

Moderate walking, drinking water and following all medical advice will help immensely. I was rigid with my diet and was happy as I could see results. I had my transplant in November past and have lost almost 4 stone. You are allowed off days but get straight back on the road again. Best of luck!

My symptoms started around then. Not diagnosed yet but have some worrying symptoms. Just want to sleep with an easier mind. Hope you are feeling reasonably well today.

I've been advised against Milk Thistle it can cause more harm than good x

Hi,I too was in hospital last march with upper GI bleeds and had banding,my KPA scan was 39. But I was told to have a good diet and excersise,I have been quite fit before hand, although a bad separation pushed me to drink more at the time, been a year now and not really had any major symptoms, lots going on with suggested covid, and a possibility of long term aspirin use, that could have had some impact on my liver, still awaiting next appointment, but had some good feed back on here, hope your OK.Carvedilol didn't suit me,but now in labetolol, seems OK for now.consultant said your liver is remarkable at healing ! When I asked about diet he said just listen to your body, I eat loads of protein, fruits with good antioxidants, and water, never had coffee but drink a few cups a day, have you had any banding.?!

Get better Tia. We are all here with problems of various degrees. But I see a lot of encouragement here. Hugs.
