High bilirubin

hi there, I've recently been for multiple blood tests due to my bilirubin levels being elevated. They’ve gone up and up ever four weeks. I've had yellowing of the eyes for years but nothing that has ever concerned me, nor anything i have ever spoken to the GP about until recently. The doctors have mentioned Gilberts Syndrome, but are now speaking to the Liver and Gastro Specialists to see if they want more investigations. I’m only 20 years old and am now worrying myself that something could be wrong! Any advice welcome and anyone who's been through something similar, i hope you reply and ease my mind!

CeeCeeB10 I know how it feels to patiently wait for answers from docs so hopefully ur GI/hepatologist can help sort it out. Doctors “mentioned” Gilbert’s after a few elevated bilirubin tests so I was glad when they completed the genetic test for it which confirmed positive. Check out the link in the other comment as it’s very helpful. Wishing u well.

gnillo hey there, thought I’d give a bit of an update, gastro have said to rule out haemolysis so I will need to have a couple more blood tests, and if the levels go above 80umol then it’ll be a liver clinic referral x

CeeCeeB10 that’s great news. Hopefully they can pin it down. I honestly think that having a liver specialist should all be preventative care. It’s crazy to think that u need so many referrals to specialists when everyone should have access.

I haven’t heard anything from the GP but my eyes are turning more yellow! I think they are waiting 4 weeks

That sounds far out. As long as ur keeping up with a healthy lifestyle and hydration it should pass with time. I think my most recent bout with jaundice was 2.5 weeks and my total bilirubin was 5.8. Was hard to even eat or drink anything at the time. Hoping they can see u sooner!
