Hubby is complaining that his tummy is getting bigger? The dr old him on Thursday that the ct scan showed a build up of fluid, which is a new symptom.
What do I need to keep an eye out for? Will he need to be seen by his dr before his Hepatology appt Thursday or can it wait until then?
Last night hubby consumed a bottle of wine after his cans of cider. He came to bed at 1:30 and could not sleep. He was chitchatting rubbish, getting up and down, etc until gone 4:30am. He has just got up, so I dont expect will be long before he opens his first can. I have noted down what is in the fridge, so I will be able to keep tabs on what he is drinking this week, ready for the appt Thurs.

This behaviour sounds very similar to me 🙈 the doctor should put him on diuretics now for the build up of fluid, but if its really bad he may have to have it drained, but once thats starts it does continue unfortunately, i tried to keep an eye on what hubby was drinking, but he was crafty he hid it all over the house, even in pockets of his suits in his wardrobe, its so hard for the spouse my heart goes out to you, my husband has been gone a month now, and my life is less stressful i just couldn't cope no longer after 32yrs he had to go. Big hugs to you xx
Hi Lisa,.Ascites, well that's one sympton I suffered bad with,
Ascites is a build up of fluid around the stomach lining, it is due to the fact that the liver is really struggling to cope with the toxins from the alcohol.
This unfortunately is also a sign of liver failure.
The fluid builds up quite quickly, well it did with me on four occasions, all within two weeks I looked pregnant with triplets, its the most uncomfortable thing to endure.
When you say hubby was taking jibberish Lisa, is he still doing it ? Only I'm wondering if he has some sort of hepatic ENCEPHALOPATHY
I'm not too familiar with hepatic ENCEPHALOPATHY myself, I have had it in mild form, its toxins in the brain due to struggling liver.
Hubby really needs to stop , or at least as I said start to cut down every other day or so
No good seeing the GP as he is now under a hepatologist, they will say to see them unfortunately.
Please keep a watch over him, I know you are doing so Lisa, remember your not in control of this situation, his addiction is at present
Make sure the consultant is aware of this on Thursday. Development of ascites is not a good sign of his liver health and mentioning the talking gibberish will also be helpful. It may be just the alchohol but the consultant will be able to check for signs of hepatic encephalopathy just to be on the safe side.
Hopefully the consultant on Thursday can knock some sense into him too. Fingers crossed.
Please look out for the HE i new nothing about it until hubby got it, it’s the most scary thing ever he was trying to sit on things that weren’t there etc etc ended up in hospital for 5 days under sedation and safeguarding (he remembers nothing) toxins build up and goes through the brain, I knew something was wrong when he wouldn’t wake up one morning, he was defently on way to a coma (liver failure)
Thanks everyone, I have written a list of his symptoms ready for the liver specialists on Thursday. Hubby was complaining a lot yesterday about discomfort/pain in his abdomen. He thinks the abdomen swelling is getting worse
I am doing ok thanks, but will be glad when Thursdays appt is over and done with.
Hubby is still complaining about his tummy. He is lethargic and has no get up and go. He is still drinking, but says he is going to do whatever the Dr on Thursday tells him to do.
Roll on Thursdays appt so that we know exactly what we are dealing with.
