Morning! My husband is in the process of being assessed for Liver Transplant. He has been called to GP surgery for Pneumonia, Hep B and C vaccines - does anyone know why?
VACCINATIONS : Morning! My husband is in... - British Liver Trust
VACCINATIONS
When you are on the transplant list they don't want you picking up any other illnesses as far as possible so it is normal to have all the jags (he'll also need a clean bill of health from a dentist). Obviously post transplant a person is immune suppressed so more vulnerable to picking up things and being unable to fight them off.
I would point out though that there is no preventative vaccine for Hepatitis C - Hep B yes.

Hi Katie, long time since we have spoken. I have a friend I met on here and she is in Manchester and when she had her transplant! I waited and kept her husband calm while she was 11 hours in theatre and we were both on our mobiles awaiting her success and we are close since that time. I dont know at present as to what vaccine she been advised to have. My GP has advised me to sit it out for the oxford one.My respiratory nurse has said the same. I'm on palliative care now so that is why I have taken my doctors advice. I'm child pugh G whatever that means. I'm setting goals to keep my spirits up. Kind wishes to you and hubby and happy Christmas and a healthy new year x julie
Good morning. Anyone with liver disease should have the flu and pneumonia vaccines unless there is an absolute contra indication. It might be worth checking with the GP where the instruction has come from with regard to the Hep B vaccination, there isnt a vaccination against Hep C. Alternatively see if you can get hold of the liver transplant coordinators at the transplant centre and check with them.

Thankyou trust 5. I had my flu vaccine early November as I have done every year
Its good practice to have those vaccines before transplant and its usually recommended to get them done if you hadn't had them already. So your gp is just follow the advice I suspect has been set out in a letter from your hospital team. Hope the assessment goes well 😊.
