I had a liver transplant 8 weeks ago. I am feeling so much better post transplant but am suffering with a really bad back ache. Has anyone suffered similar and if so, can you recommend any specific treatment please?

Back ache post liver transplant

Hi Samanthadrewett,
Sorry to hear of your pain, but glad you are improving overall post transplant.
I am sure our fourm members will share their experiences and tips, but may I encourage you to contact your transplant team for assessment of your back pain too . They can advise as to any medications if appropriate.
Take care,

Hi Samantha , sorry to here of your discomfort, I,m 3 months post TX now and I also had back pains, somewhat similar to the pains I had pre TX when my liver was distressed, however this has now settled down and completely gone away , I,m sure yours will settle down with time , I think its quite common with new TXees, hope this helps , but if it gets worse let your medics know ...!!!
Thank you, that is really helpful and reassuring. Hopefully, just after Christmas, I should feel an improvement.
The pain sort of disappeared with out me noticing , if that makes sense, then one day recently I was driving (I don,t go out often and I don,t get out the vehicle) and when I looked sharp left at a junction I suddenly realised I could turn fully left without any discomfort at all, which I have not been able to do for years , quite a nice surprise. It,s the little things that make life a lot more bearable.
Hi
After my transplant I had back ache, in fact I ached every where.
It can be the anti rejection drugs or steroids that cause it as well
You body has has a lot to cope with. I slowly got less and less pain.
Now two years on I reckon I have just got older and just ache!
David

Thanks David. I'm hoping that as you suggest, it is partly drug related but maybe age related too!
Hi Samantha,I had chronic backache after transplant but I also had a huge haematoma on my side spreading round my back. I was taking Co-codamol on prescription and that helped. What really helped the most though was the good old hot water bottle and I also used a heat pad that could be heated in the microwave.
You have my sympathies and I hope it goes away very soon.
Very best wishes.
Alf
