I went to the GP due to severe bloating which started back in April/May. It’s always there but worse after eating.
GP did bloods (clear) and ultrasound. They found large gallstones. I have been suffering mildly with colic type pain and reflux for a few years. I take PPIs which help, otherwise I struggle to sleep and the colic comes back.
GP is convinced I need Gallbladder removal and it has relieved reflux for past patients but bloating less known. Hospital doctor is dismissive of the bloating being connected but I’ve seen others reporting this symptom online. Has anyone any experience with bloating and improvements post surgery?
I’m very happy not to have surgery, just worried about what else could be causing it otherwise. I’m awaiting more investigation but any insight from fellow gallstones suffers would be great.

I am sorry to hear you are suffering with gallstones. I also had a lot of reflux, which was worse after eating. I had my gallbladder removed last year. The reflux has improved. I still get some bloating. I have found my appetite has reduced quite a lot. I hope you get some help soon and a way forward in your treatment. I also found the consultant fairly dismissive about some of my symptoms. He said that bloating was more to do with I.B.S. I'd say that gallbladder removal definitely helped resolve some symptoms but it does not completely resolve all digestive issues. However, in the end gallstones can lead to complications so I'm glad I had it out. Take good care.
