Afternoon....A lot on here are aware of my story..Ill give a short version,as a reminder of my posts.

My hubbys been a heavy drinker for over 35 years, the last few years not so heavy but still drinking, he was diagnosed with fatty liver over 2 and half years ago but continued drinking....Recently (the last 6 months or so) his health has deterorated , his belly is swollen, grown breasts, swollen legs and feet, confused most of the time, not able to eat food (a few bits of food here and there over the weeks. Hes constantly tired, hes been known to sleep for 15/20 hours. When he is up hes always saying how ill he feels and then hes back in bed. I contacted the drs with my concerns and he had an MOT bloods done on his liver etc, after examining him, and stating his liver is enlarged, they came back with abnormalities and so the dr scedulated a torso scan.

I had a phone call off the dr this morning with the results, asking how hes been since the bloods and i said hes worse, he then informed me that hubbys liver is ok apart from it be slightly fatty, that he believes hes got an intolerence to wheat (bear in mind hes hardly ate) and that his one lung is showing a few nodules at the bottom indicating hes got a slight chest infection. He asked me if he had been coughing or pain in his chest and i replied no, because he dont. (Hes breathless but hes always been breathless for many many years ,

I am so confused why is he having all these symptoms.?.. and yet hes basically got nothing wrong with him. He slept for 12 hours day before yesterday ,got up at 9 pm and was back in bed by 11,15 pm because he felt so ill, he slept all night and was up again at 10 am this morning couldnt stay awake so went straight back to bed, got up at half 3 pm and its now 4 20 pm and hes back in bed because he feels so ill and tired...Hes not suffering with depression etc.I said so hes not got cirrhosis then? he said it dont seem it, The dr said if he gets worse to give them a ring and he will have to have a look at him .Has or is anyone else experienced this? ....

Thank you for reading..

When you say they scheduled a torso scan, has he actually had it? Symptoms would definitely seem to indicate much more than 'just' a fatty liver.

Hi, yes he had it done just over a week ago, i went with him up until he went into the room to have it done,He was in there for almost an hour. They had the results this morning..

Hi,,,,, No hes not scheduled to have any thing more done on his liver,as far as the dr is concerned his liver is just slightly fatty and so he isnt referring him to the liver consultant ,he just needs to be seen by a dietian and the lung specialist.

So i guess its just a matter of seeing hubby being so ill without as far as the dr is concerned nothing serious is going on and just getting on with life. Im obviously over the moon that he doesnt have cirrhosis,it just all dont make sense of why he is so ill, hubby wont push to have any other tests done, ive suggested to ask for more tests and hes said the drs know what they are talking about...Thanx for the replies.

I'm sorry , I don't want to scare you but I wanted to tell you of my experience. I'm May 2016 I was diagnosed with non alcoholic fatty liver disease after ultrasound, MRI etc. In November 2016 I had a liver biopsy, it had progressed to non alcoholic steatohepitis!! In February this year I had a fibroscan and my liver had progressed to compensated cirrhosis!!

If you need to ask me anything of my experience please do not hesitate to contact me. Lots of love Lynne xxxx♥️🤗🌈💜

Good morning,

I am not surprised you are confused.com. The symptoms you describe dont really fit in with what you have been told. If the GP has not seen him face to face recently then it might be an idea to get him to review him'

regards

Hi ty for your reply..He saw the dr at the surgery (just over 3 weeks or so ago)just before he had the recent bloods and scan done, He examined him and said he believed that hubbys liver is enlarged, So he arranged for him to have the bloods and scan done.

Was this his general physician or a liver specialist? I don't think I would let this go based on one doctor's opinion. They are human after all, and can make mistakes.

These symptoms are precisely what mine were, and a biopsy confirmed Cirrhosis. Upside is I was given about 2 years life expectancy, and that was in 2007! Stopping alcohol immediately and taking charge of my body and health ( improved diet, physical exercise) has made all the difference. Of course I will always have Cirrhosis, and while it cant be cured it can be arrested. Blessings to you both!

Hi ty for your reply...It was the GPs diagnosis. He rang me and shared the scan results with me, he said about fatty liver and i said so he hasnt got cirrhosis then? he said no, i said so why is he so ill,so tired, and all the symptoms, he said fatty liver can cause those symptoms. But if he gets worse or stays the same for a long period then contact us and ill take another look at him, I said so no other tests then? he said no , he said he spoke to the liver specialist about seeing hubby and the specialist said there was no point unless he is willing to give up the booze, So i shared that with hubby and he said , i have had fatty liver for over 2 and half years and have continued to drink and its still fatty, im not giving up the one thing that i have pleasure in, we argued as i pointed out how ill its making him and hes , the dr told you it can be a number of reasons,,its a typical drs know best ,you arent a dr answer.. I personally wanted him to go see the dr again, and he said maybe one day.

Concerning your health now, its lovely to hear how you have turned your life style around, its just a pity hubby and others i know who do have cirrhosis didnt think the same way, He has lost a few friends too cirrhosis, and one is now in the hospital on a ventilator. Its very very sad...

Take care

I didn't always think that way either. I often said to my hubby " well, I'm dying anyway so I may as well enjoy it ". Until the day I found myself in the ICU (U.S.) in a coma from too much ammonia built up. Facing death head on changed my whole perspective. I now have a beautiful 2 yr old grandson that I'd have never known!

Also, WHAT Dr. makes a statement like that? You mean you only want perfect patients?? Thst made me a bit angry that his doc is so judgmental that he wont even see him.

Im so pleased to hear your around to see your grandson, well worth living for .:)..His drs are all like it, there are 4 in the surgery and each and everyone has that attitude, not just with hubby either...The one i mentioned going back a few years ago hubby was vomitting alot, he was loosing loads of weight etc, so i called the dr out , when the dr came out he asked hubby what was going on? hubby said nothing, and the dr pointed at me and said so why is she wasting my time? and said im going and dont ask me to come out again..Hubby ended up in hospital with suspected sepsis..I understand the frustration of dealing with people with sickness due to self harm but they still have a duty of care. What hurts is the drs treat the carers in the same way as they do the one whos sick.

What were his bloods showing? Some symptoms of alcohol related hepatitis resemble those of cirrhosis but you would expect an elevation of his liver inflammation markers if he had ongoing hepatitis (liver inflammation). His symptoms are definitely more indicative of cirrhosis or alcohol related hepatitis than just fatty liver.

Hi...The dr wouldnt tell me what his bloods are showing, (even though hubby has signed that the dr can discuss his medical results ), he just said they are showing abnormalities..Sounds mean but im too tired to be chasing it all up anymore. The drs are for what ever reason arent interested in doing any more tests and hubby isnt interested in chasing it all up.Im exausted..
