A scan showed that I have a fatty liver! Yes I never drink alcohol, I eat a good diet,I dont over eat and over the past few years Ive lost nearly two stone, I exercise and do not eat a lot of refined or processed foods, sugars etc, then it occurred to me it might be due to steroids, antibiotics and ppis I have been taking a lot of? Would switching to non steroid nasal sprays and asthma relief help? Can anyone tell me about a similar situation? Can anyone recommend a non steroid nasal spray or asthma inhaler?

Fatty Liver
By far the commonest cause of fatty liver is being overweight which can lead to conditions like metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance and fatty infiltration of the liver. Losing almost two stone was positive but is your body mass index (BMI) still above the normal healthy range? If it is then keep gradually losing weight.
The sort of drugs you mentioned (particularly steroids) if taken for longer than 6 months can cause or at least be a contributing factor in the development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in some people. It's not known if these drugs by themselves cause NAFLD or whether they precipitate NAFLD in a susceptible person by exacerbating insulin resistance, central obesity, diabetes, and high triglyceride levels. If they were the primary cause of your fatty liver then it should clear up after discontinuing them however you should only do this in consultation with your doctor.
In his book 'Living Beyond Limits' Dr David Spiegel tells a story when as a medical intern he had to deal with a teenage girl who was having a severe asthma attack. He found her sitting bolt upright in her bed in great distress. In desperation he asked her if she was willing to try to relax by following his instructions. She agreed & he got her to relax using a hypnosis technique. Her asthma attack stopped & she lay down on her bed. Spiegel was forbidden by the hospital authorities to do it again. How dare he use a non-drug, non-approved method to treat the girl! He taught the girl self-hypnosis anyway & she only had one more hospitalisation for asthma & became a spokesperson for learning to control asthma through relaxation techniques as an alternative for some people to relying solely on drugs.
If your blood test results are normal then your fatty liver may be benign. If they are not normal then you have cause to be concerned because fatty liver accompanied by inflammation can eventually progress to cirrhosis.
Good morning,
I have attached the British Liver Trust information regarding Non Alcohol Related Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD)

Losing two stone and eating well and exercising regularly and minimal alcohol will have a positive effect on long term liver health.
With regards to medication, no-one on this forum is medically qualified to discuss medication changes. May I suggest you have a conversation with your own doctors, who will have access to your full medical history.
Take care,
