Some people just have a high billirubin I think. My sister has Gilbert's syndrome and her billirubin is always high. Mine is usually high too but I have a different issue....PBC

Good afternoon Claire1994,

I do think it is worth clarifying with your doctor if there is a cause for your elevated bilirubin. It is reassuring that no other blood tests are elevated.

I am by no means diagnosing you ( this would be inapproriate and also impossible) but I have included a link to our information regarding GIlberts Syndrome. This may be worth discussing with your doctor.

Hi Claire 1994....i have the same issue....i have had 2 blood tests sitting around 30 and have a third one coming and if still high, my GP will said he will request an abdominal MRI to see what's occurring...for now keep drinking water and avoid alcohol he said.

Hi all, just want to know what is the unit of measurement for bilirubin here? mg/dl or micromole /L? Thanks!

in reply toZombie7321

Hello Zombie7321,

One of the many reasons we do not encourage interpretation of blood test results is for this very reason . Different centres across the UK use different units of measurement and parameters , and this can lead to misinterpretation.

Hope this helps,
