I'm awaiting scans for on my liver as I have multiple symptoms. The one that is driving me crazy is itching al over 24/7. Anything I can take before I'm diagnosed?
Also, I had a CT scan on my pancreas a year ago, just wondering, would my liver have also shown on this scan if there were any issues or would they have just looked at the pancreas?
Thanks
Andrew

Have you had a recent blood test to see if this itch is indeed liver related? Often an itch with liver disease is due to a build up of bilirubin or bile salts in the blood. If it is indeed this then some people on here have recently been saying that a prescription of Fexofenadine has aided their itching. (it's an antihistamine).
Thank you AyrshireK. I have had blood tests which all came back fine but I know there are may out there, who have end stage liver disease and bloods have come back fine so I’m still convinced I have it.
Is Fexofenadine only something that is subscribed or can I get it over the counter? I actually took antihistamine tablets from over the counter yesterday and Ithink the itching has reduced by 30% or maybe it’s just coincidence🧐 Hope these tablets arn’t damaging my liver more!
I take 2-3 daily antihistamine to stop itch, prescribed but you can get over counter. When really bad questran which is a powder you mix to a drink, specialist prescribed. Itch never relates to blood tests.
Thank you exy. Can I ask is it ok to take that many a day with suspected liver problems? The daily does is one every day on the instructions. Just wondering if you are taking them for the same thing.
Aih and pbc. Specialist prescribed meds and have on occasion had to take a prescription antihistamine at a higher dose. So ok with specialist must be ok.
I take half a Benydral at night. Works for me. But I do have an rx for something stronger if needed
Good afternoon Walt46,
It is always safer to seek medical or pharmaceutical advice before taking any new medicines, particularly if you are under investigation for a liver condition - or any new condition for that matter.
You don't give much info on your other symptoms or why you had the pancreatic scan, do you have diabetes? Reason I ask is Genetic Haemochromatosis (iron overload disorder) can damage all internal organs, particularly the liver. Itching is quite a common symptom as is diabetes due to the pancreas being affected. Simple bloodtest will check your iron storage levels.
Hi Hdon, my bloods have all come back spot on. I had the pancreas scan due to pale stools and dull ache just below rib cage. My itching hasn’t been constant lately but now kicks in about 16:00 everyday.
