Morning amnalolish

We understand this is a difficult time but do recommend you contact your father's doctor or consultant again regarding your concerns as no one is medically qualified on the forum.

Very best wishes.

Hi amnaloish,

I'm sorry, I've only just seen your post.

I had 2 sessions of TACE and after each TACE procedure I suffered from a kidney infection and this can actually make a person excessively thirsty.

I had to have a course of antibiotics following both procedures.

I'm not saying that it is the problem in your fathers case but it is something to be aware of that can happen in a small percentage of cases.

It's good to drink plenty of water to help flush the system out and to help the system to get rid of toxins.

I used to drink at least 2 litres of still, flavoured water a day and I'm sure that this helped tremendously.

The TACE worked really well on me.

I hope that your father is feeling much better soon.

Very best wishes.

Alf

Thanks for advice ! He also has postural hypotension and weakness. Is it normal for these symptoms to appear in TACE? How was ur experience with TACE

It's not unusual when you are suffering from liver issues to have postural hypotension and yes it was something that I suffered with over my illness (cirrhosis and HCC) but I'm not sure if I was suffering with it at the time of the TACE procedure but the likelihood is that I was.

After having TACE I felt very tired and weak and I spent a great deal of time in bed.

TACE worked well for me. I was on the TACE2 trial (TACE alongside the drug Sorafenib) it shrunk my 2 tumours and held them stable.

At the time of the TACE procedures I was given 5-6 months to live without treatment and 18 months or possibly more if I responded to treatment. I was not considered eligible for transplant.

Four and a half years later I entered into liver failure and for the first time I was offered the chance to go for assessment for transplant and was told that I only had a 30% chance of getting on the transplant list because of my age (68 at that time) and because of me having had type2 diabetes for over 20 years.

I was accepted on the transplant list and was only on the list for 10 weeks. I am now 19 months post transplant and doing extremely well.

Regards.

Alf

So TACE work for you for four and half year?

TACE alongside Sorafenib. It was cirrhosis that took me into liver failure and then transplant.

The sorafenib was to retard the growth of blood vessels that would give the tumours a new blood supply.

Is it normal for LFTS to be raised in TACE because my father LFTS are raised?

I think this is fairly common first off by the very nature of what has been done inside the liver. Then hopefully as the tumours shrink and the liver recovers from the treatment then LFT's should start to improve.

Trance arterial chemo embolization.

They put a line in through the groin area directly into the tumours in the liver and feed in liquid chemotherapy and also block of the blood vessels feeding the tumours. This then hopefully shrinks the tumours. It worked in my case and held the tumours stable.
