After you have had first round of tace do they usually wait 6 weeks for a scan then decide after that when to have more? How long a break do you usually get?

How long between tace treatments?
The 6 week scan is to determine the success or otherwise of the treatment. You should then be scanned again approx every 3 months and the appropriate treatment discussed. I had one round and it wasn't a rip roaring success so I underwent another round almost immediately now I've had about 7/8 treatments I find it pretty routine.
So do you have three months between those 7/8 treatments?
Pretty much. I had an attempted TP in November, spent 12 days in a coma, had my latest embolisation in March. That seemed to be the most aggressive treatment so far which I have rationalised as being the way forward as a further TP has been ruled out. I was on the list for 18 months and now will live as long as my liver functions reasonably well. Thus embolisations are an important part of my Liver management.
Sorry to hear the Tp did not work out.
They said my family member is not even a candidate, I wonder if that can change?
That's sad they won't even be considered. I know the assessment is very thorough, and having previously weighed 24/25 stone I had to go on a very strict diet to ensure my BMI remained under 40. It now is at 32 although that still makes me obese apparently. Not that it worries me it has become a source of much amusement having lost over 10 stone and suddenly being able to buy off peg is still a surreal experience. Having been accepted on the list, I then went 18 months waiting on the call, eventually getting a false alarm followed by another call within a week that was the real deal. It just wasn't to be for me although having eventually come out of the coma was extremely shocked to learn that my family had been told that it was nigh on impossible for me to survive, and they even spoke about what organs or other body parts could be donated as this was one of my wishes.
I am pleased to say that I am still here, enjoying every day. There is something in me that just loves beating they odds.
