How long? After Tace

How long do people usually have left to live once they have started tace treatment?

When the doctors say the round of tace clears what cancer they could see on the scan how long until it returns again and more tace is required?

Some very good and clear information on TACE on this Canadian site:- cancer.ca/en/cancer-informa...

It says the following about follow up:- Follow-up after TACE

You may have a CT scan 2 or 3 months after TACE. Doctors use this imaging test to see how much the tumours have shrunk and to look for any new tumours in the liver.

Many people will need another TACE procedure because liver tumours often grow back in 10–16 months. TACE can be repeated as many times as needed, as long as you are still healthy enough to have it done.

I had Tace twice back in 2015. I then had a year of Sorafenib. I know someone who has had it 15 times. It depends on if they can actually embolise and block each tumour and how well you cope with the side effects. Sorry not a definite answer. I am now on an immunotherapy trial and tumours are stable with good quality of life. Diagnosed 2014.

Thank you for your replies and excellent news to hear you have good quality of life 3 years after diagnosis Denib.

I have heard of sorafenib but do not know much about it , at what stage do they offer that and why did you change from tace to that?

The article I linked to above covers the Targeted Therapy i.e. Sorafenib and how and when it is used.

I started off with a resection. 6mths later scan showed new tumours in liver and mets in lungs. Tace was offered with Sorafenib. The Sorafenib acts as an inhibitor. Was struggling with side effects on it and after 12mths had progression. I am now on Pembrolizumab trial in Liverpool. After 12mths I am stable with tumours at half the original size.

No I haven't had cirrhosis. I had no obvious signs and was lucky to be diagnosed at all. The Tace wiped me out for weeks incredibly tired, hair loss, food issues. think it was over five weeks before I could function properly but was still tired. Other than Tace for Liver the only other treatments I'm aware of are ablation or clinical trials.

My husband had Tace made him really bad, didn't work on the 2 tumours they attacked! No more Tace and no more treatment will help him. Consultants have given him 12 months! He's 51 I am absolutely heartbroken!! X
