Loss of apetite in TACE
I am sorry your father is feeeling so nauseated. For some people post TACE it can be a significant problem and lasts some weeks. It becomes a vicious circle - feeling nauseated, can't eat, get weaker, feel more nauseated..... Has your father been prescribed medication to help with the nausea - his oncologist or the GP could do this. There are several medications that could help and sometimes more than one has to be tried before some relief is experienced. Your father should have a named clinical nurse specialist as part of his medical team. Are you able to contact him/her and explain how unwell your father is feeling? It is important that your father's medical team and GP are aware of the situation, it is of course possible that TACE is not the reason for his nausea.
I do hope your father soon feels less nauseated - it is such a horrible feeling.
If you want to talk to one of our liver specialist nurses we do have a free helpline which is open from 10:00 - 15:00 (Mon - Fri except Bank Holidays) 0800 652 7330
regards

How was ur experience with TACE and how long did u suffer these symptoms?I am sacred as it is a month now but there is no improvement in his symptoms. He is so weak and can't tolerate the smell of oil. Doctor recommended motilium but it is not effective.
Hi amanalolish
Sorry I have taken so long to reply I have not been 2 well over the past 2-3 days so I hope you will forgive me if this post is a little shakey, first and foremost I hope your Dad is feeling a little better, and all I can say is having been in and out so many times for Tace I think it takes some people in one way while others do have a problem with the whole procedure. One of the things I found was everything I ate or drank tasted just like "Tin", please don't ask how I know what tin tastes like, that was how I imagined it would taste but after the treatment wore off and after the scan which can be anything 6-8-12 wks depending on how busy the radiology dept the taste had diminished.
Now my first Tace was on Monday 14th August 2017. then one every 3-5 months after follow up's such as Scans or/and Pet scan/Fibroscan, of course, assorted blood tests, my last Tace..14th October 2019. It took me a very long time to get over that one as quite a few complications arose from that particular procedure. I finally got discharged from my local hospital on the 29th October 2019, please don't let my experience frighten you and don't think that it may happen to your Dad my case was a bit extreme and I was very unlucky. I did battle with nausea a lot but I found Ondansetron helped me, in fact, I still take it now.
I am thinking of you and Dad after all it is you the carer's who go through this horrid illness just a much as we do and "Where would we be without you?????. I have no family but I do have a very good team and I am already signed up with my local hospice and have a palliative nurse so I get by, also I have a smashing neighbour on my side who has her own family but she attends all my appointments and is always at hand. I appreciate that I find it nice here on this forum as my diction is not great but I do manage to find people who will willingly chat and that helps me a great deal. If you ever feel you need a chat please just give me a shout, and you are doing a great job, just remember 2 take a little time for yourself. I wish you all the very best regards to your Dad, hope to spk soon.

Hi Paderico
My Dad had just second TACE. He is having temp since then after every 8 hours. It reaches to 103 and 104 normally and it has been 15 days.He also start to shiver during the fever . He is very weak too.Doctor told us that fever will remain for week or too but it is continuing worsing. Is it that normal in TACE. Also plz tell any specific diet u had in TACE because he doesn't like any food now.
Hi amnalolish,
I'm sorry that you are having to deal with your father feeling so poorly.
I had 2 sessions of TACE and I know that it does take some time to get over the procedures. As for diet, I found little and often was the best way. Even if I didn't feel like eating anything my wife would put something next me and 9 times out of 10 I would eat it. I found mugs of soup were easy to get down and dry biscuits or toast, or a toasted tea cake. I drank plenty of water all the time, I always had a bottle next to me. I am sure that the water helped a lot.
I hope that your dad starts to feel a lot better soon.
Very best wishes,
Alf
