Should you be completely self isolating with AHI and PBC ? Conflicting reports with supermarkets when classed as vulnerable do I dare visit them at designated times? Also what about someone cutting my hair in my own house?? Questions ......!!
Should I be self isolating?: Should you... - British Liver Trust
Should I be self isolating?
Personally, l don't have any health issues however my husband has PMR for which he injects methotrexate weekly which means his immune system is weakened , he also has asthma. Consequently he is considered vulnerable therefore he has given up work as a motorcycle instructor and is self isolating for the minimum recommended time of 12 weeks. I am isolating too in order to protect him. l have cancelled both my nail and hair appointments. The guidelines set are stay at least 1 metre away from people. Which wasn't easy when my daughter visited today as all l wanted to do was hug her ! But must be sensible, follow the guidelines and keep everyone safe

Hi Laura
For me I’ve had a liver transplant and have a blood disease which is classified as blood cancer
I know that now many supermarkets are doing 3 days a week opening 08.00:09.00am for the elderly and vulnerable people to shop in that hour this saves over crowding I had been going to the supermarket early morning around 07.00 before they changed the hours but for me now I’m seriously self isolating now
Please be safe and careful out there ❤️
Hi,
I dont know, im the same. PBC/AIH overlap, stopped steroids but still on azathioprine. ( Liver compensated cihrosis).
I have from today been isolating. Im not going to supermarket again, hubby doing that.
Take care
Angela xx
Government guidelines are saying anyone with chronic liver disease, anyone on steroid treatment and/or immune suppressants is vulnerable and should practice 'social distancing' i.e. protecting yourself from picking up the condition. If need be you can still go to shops but protect yourself, keep the minimum distance from others, wash your hands and avoid touching your face. There are some (who are getting letters from NHS are even more vulnerable such as post transplant people) who need to 'stringently socially distance'.
There is some confusion over terminology, self-isolating is for when you actually have symptoms of covid-19 and then you must not go out and potentially infect others.
As a vulnerable patient you have to make sure you don't put yourself at risk, it would be wise for ALL to socially distance which is what the pub closures etc. is all about.
My hubby has cirrhosis due to AIH, has a compromised spleen due to splenic infarction and is on steroids. We are 'socially distancing'. Even before the school closures were announced I had to cancel all my forth coming school workshops which I run as a self-employed person and have had to turn down my 'call up' by the police (I am a special constable). I can not run the risk of me picking up the virus and bringing it home. I will do the shopping alone thereby reducing risk for hubby!
Lets ride this out folks, stay as safe as possible, everyone whether ill or not is vulnerable to catching this thing and some are obviously more at risk of a detrimental outcome if they do catch it.
Katie
The answer is yes i work in a supermarket and classed as vulnerable, sent home to isolate for 12weeks take no chances, healthy people are catching this virus.stay safe xx.

My liver unit has classed its patients with AIH on immunosuppressants as at severe risk and I might therefore receive a letter from NHS before end of next week to say I need to "shield" which means not venturing out at all. There is a a little less stringency in the guidance from the link above (to that being used locally by my liver unit), which is that it is the degree of immunosuppression that will decide things ... we will all know by end of next week it seems.
