Bloody ascites!

Good morning everyone, like many others, this forum has been a 'lifeline' for me, and helps you feel that you are not alone. My partner has Cirrhosis ( diagnosed 18 months ago, but had symptoms for a few years) he is decompensated and has numerous problems. He had ascites for the first time last November, and they drained 9ltrs of clear amber fluid, however 2 days ago he needed another one and 5ltrs of what looked like blood was drained. Of course we were shocked and worried, but just told " this is normal for some people". Anyone else had this?

This is a rare complication of ascites and seems to be known as Hemorrhagic ascites where the fluid contains a high level of red blood cells. I note your partner has been diagnosed for 18 months and has decompensated cirrhosis - is he a candidate for potential transplant? Is he being seen at a transplant unit? If not I would be seriously pushing for him to be seen and assessed.
