I started with Fatty Liver, RUQ pain & hip pain + deranged LFT's 3 years ago. Since then I have radically altered my diet, quit alcohol (apart from the odd minor relapse) and everything has returned to normal.... except the RUQ!!. My last ultrasound said smooth liver, normal size, no fat, also had a good fibroscan that says the same. How can there be inflammation if the liver is normal size etc? Not had much sleep for the las 3 years due to extreme pain at night and on the odd few occasions were I have had a drink It felt like my 'normal sized' liver was going to burst out from my chest! Anyone else had this kind of experience? I have been told to have some blood tests in 3 years time by the specialist and if they are AST / ALT 2:1 come back and see me again! I am worried I have undiagnosed ASH not NAFLD which has been the diagnosis so far as as far as I can tell a common issue.

Abbreviations Made Easy -

It's an indication of just how confused this area is that even the basic terminology isn't agreed upon. You'd think that a simple term like abbreviation was easy to define, wouldn't you? Sure you would.

We have some doctors that seem to think that RTC should mean return to clinic and somehow majically we should know this? 🤔

That’s the one. Suppose it should have read RUQP.

sounds like your specialist is still suspecting alcohol related if he's talking ast/alt ratios. In my experience you can have "pain" even with clear ultrasounds-this is how I started-it was fatty liver (due to alcohol) and I had high GGT levels. 3-4 months abstinence along with diet cleared the symptoms-still had elevated GGT levels though. Stick with the good diet and exercise-normal blood panel is pretty good news though....I'm having mine done in a few days -pretty sure they won't be normal as my platelet count is bit low.

I also cleared my liver of fat last week.

The ultrasound was fine.
