Hi I had a fibroscan in August and the result was 16.5. Could anyone enlighten me. I saw consultant twice since and neither one of them mentioned my results..I forgot to ask, but going through records for sending PIP form, I came across it again.
I will ring the consultant secretary tomorrow and see if the consultant can explain.
Thanks x

a score indicative of cirrhosis is around 12.4, however, it is only one tool for diagnosis, my Wife's score was 47.5 and people say you cannot reversed but I do not agree and my wife next appointment is Jan 2020 so we will see if any improvement
Hi, I was diagnosed with decompensated cirrhosis in October 2018 and had a fibroscore of 27.8. By July of 2019 I was a 9. I am strictly no alcohol, low fat diet, mostly vegetable protein and complex carbs (wholegrain and certainly no puddings/cakes, not much meat but I do have fish twice/week, I drink tea/coffee but no sugary drinks, lots of fruit/veg, moderate exercise (walking/household chores) and I have lost weight by virtue of my diet. Improvement does happen! Cheers, Liz
It depends on what is the cause of the underlying liver disease, the score chart for Fibroscan actually has different bars with different cut off values for each type of main liver disease. For example with Non Alcohol Related Fatty Liver disease a figure of over 12 kPa might indicate cirrhosis whereas in Alcohol Related Liver disease the score for cirrhosis is anything over almost 23 kPa. The main stumbling block here for you is that there is no bar or explanation provided when the issue is Auto-Immune Hepatitis or Primary Biliary Cholangitis so as a tool in those conditions it doesn't really help. You can do a search for 'Fibroscan Score Chart' on line and it will bring up images of the scoring system but it's not too good when there isn't a score for AIH/PBC.
Unless you have had an ultrasound scan or biopsy confirming a diagnosis of cirrhosis then it might not be. Any increase in your liver inflammation blood tests can also skew results often giving an inflated and inaccurate kPa reading.
Get your doctor to interpret what is going on in your case. Fibroscan alone is insufficient to provide an accurate diagnosis or scaling especially in AIH/PBC.
