Has anyone here paid privately for consultant meetings or tests or second opinions in the UK for liver cancer?

Yes after initial diagnosis by endocrineologist who ordered ct and discovered cirrhosis.

Paid privately for initial consultation rather than wait up to 3 months.

Had a few private appointments at different stages for different ,but associated problems to alpha 1

We have but not for me personally. We are sending my son for private health checks.

Background

I had an emergency admission a year ago with an unexpected decompensating liver (which we have turned to a compensating one). His maternal grandfather also has liver cancer.

After having an abdomen CT scan for a different problem, liver problems were flagged up along with a raised ALT result. This was after looking after himself, as he was planning on being a living donor for me if needed. At 22 years of age it wasn't worth messing around waiting. We now have a fantastic liver specialist for him, who understands that he is self-funding and does his best to keep costs down.

My personal view is it is worth it

I would start with your regional private hospitals. We read the profiles if the specialist and picked one ( ironically it was someone we knew) the initial consultation was around £240 and much cheaper for follow ups

Lab fees are ridiculous but you can often get these on the NHS (as we have ) a scan was approx £550 . He had different things that needed seeing to but we have seen 3 consultant, scans, bloods and monitors fitted within 2 weeks. We went to the go for a 24 hour blood pressure monitor with the GP Surgery ... It will be mid November!

As my son said ...It costs you either pay in time or money

(Theses are Cheshire prices)
