I was recently diagnosed with cirhosis. All tests done I was finally told it was due to my weight. So I have been suggested lifestyle changes.
My question is - I used to have a blood pressure of around 140/85 earlier for which I used to take medications.
Now a days the blood pressure is only around 100/60. I am off medications for regulating pressure and yet it is low.
Does cirhosis reduce blood pressure? Has this happened to any of you?
Hi Sankar. I was on BP tablets for years. For my assessment I had to have an adrenaline heart stress test as I was too weak to go on the treadmill. I failed it as my BP had become so low that when they started injecting the adrenaline my BP levels dropped through the floor and the test was abandoned. I was told that this was one of the things that could happen with cirrhosis. Another man at the assessment same time as me had the same happen. BP meds for years and then low BP rather than high. I am now 10 months+ post transplant and have been back on tablets for high BP for 6 months but am healthy apart from that (even in remission for diabetes type 2 after 20 + years of having it) Regards. That is amazing re diabetes. Guessing the blood pressure is elevated due to something besides portal hypertension?
Had a portal vein thrombus detected before transplant but still very low BP.
An aging heart probably! Good news about the diabetes though. Having lost the excess weight will have a good knock on effect for the rest of my bodily health. Got to be a good boy and keep it off now !

I was type 2 Diabetic as well and now 14 months on are in remission as well.
I just wander around during the day wondering what I have forgotten to do now (An Injection).

Hi, tacrolimus can cause high blood pressure, I'm having problems at the moment Gp monitoring and changing blood pressure pills. Tacrolimus also causing diabetes. Had pvt before transplant, portal vein completely blocked. 26 months post.

yes, there is the meds effect too over the BP increases. I was warned that the Tac could make my diabetes worse, luckily in my case it didn't. You must have been a rush case for transplant then with PV completely blocked

I had a ct scan in April 2017 which showed it was completely blocked got the call may 8th, was on the list 8 months. Never felt ill, only symptom was vomiting up massive amounts of blood, I asked to be kept at the bottom of the list for as long as possible.

My BP was high was 30 years pre TP and is still high post TP. New medication being proposed for this and other BP related problems 👎🏻.
I also had exactly the same heart stress test as bigfred and my BP didn’t change at all and I passed the test - lucky me 👍

Re thrombosis - Oh yes I did. That was kind of - understatement of the year - last year 😁- the reason for me getting sorted so quickly 👍. Fancy forgetting that!

I was reading an article written by 2 drs many years ago and it said that blood pressure is usually reduced in chirrottic patients but the pulse gets faster it also said the oxygen levels also get worse those were the findings they said .i dont know if that helps but its what i read .
