Hi, does liver disease affects blood pressure (does it go up or down). I am due to see Heptologist on 26 April. Your input will prepare me ask the relevant questions. Thanks

I would say there is a whole heap of things and scenarios that can affect blood pressure It’s always worth asking the question when you go, ask as much as you can and write a list before you go.

Thanks for your information

Hi carefull1,

My husband had high blood pressure before his liver failure, so I can't comment on this.

I would tell you to write down every single question you have and ask your doctor. If it is not relevant to you and your illness your doctor will let you know, I hope, but it will ease your mind and also give you more information. And I hope you have a doctor that is open to questions and willing to answer all your questions.

Best wishes,

Mary

Hi carefull 1. I had suffered from high blood pressure for many years and had been on meds for it. When I entered liver failure my blood pressure dropped to low and I had to stop taking the meds, I was getting dizzy spells. Post transplant I am on meds again for high blood pressure but on a lower dosage than I was on originally. Regards Alf.

Hi Alfredthegreat. I am in a similar position, I have had high blood pressure for years but other day GP was shocked to see my blood pressure too low. He halved my dose. I am still awaiting formal diagnosis. I will mention this to the heptologist when I see him on 26th April. Thanks for the information.

I failed one of my assessment tests due to the fact that I had low BP but was still on BP meds. When I stopped the meds my BP was still low. Also another man at assessment with me had low BP after years of high BP. All the best. Alf

By the way how did you found out that you had liver failure please?

I had cirrhosis and HCC. I was on a drug trial for 3 years (TACE 2) I was having 3 monthly scans and monthly blood tests. After coming off the chemo drugs I started to get ascites and through the regular scans and blood tests it was picked up that I had entered liver failure.

I have low blood pressure... 100/60 but I also have portal hypertension and I'm now on beta blockers. I often feel dizzy and sometimes just just looking to the side without turning my head makes me feel giddy.
