I am very concerned that not enough caution is given by doctors when prescribing medication with statins and blood pressure tablets in my case I have had a bad experience with raised GGT and have to keep insisting on blood tests to check if meds are having an effect and I worry how many people are medicated to death

medication can give you more problems
Unfortunately many drugs are very strong in order to treat serious illnesses and therefore carry high risks of side effects. My late husband was on many for cirrhosis and all the other conditions it brings with it. He had a carrier bag for all his medication then a 2nd carrier bag of meds to treat the side effects of the medication in the 1st bag. Its the nature of the beast I'm affraid.
I should add that my current husband has to take methotrexate and steroids to keep his PMR under control, both have risks..... causing liver damage, kidney damage and blood clots. He has to have monthly blood tests and depending on the results, his medication is adjusted as necessary.
He has to take blood thinners for life now, since the methotrexate caused a blood clot last year. He had to come off it completely at 1 point too as it affected his liver function.
He has been offered an alternative but that 1 can cause blindness ..... he passed on that one !
Hi robbymax,
I think that is a reasonable concern for all of us who take medications at anytime.
I have to say that it is often interesting that hubby is take Tylenol for pain, but elsewhere it is discouraged because it can cause liver damage.
One just has to be vigilant and also make sure the doctors or pharmacy keep us informed of possible side effects.

I think it best to have a mini check up before any meds are taken so a blood test a month later show if they have caused any problems I was on repeat prescription 20 years for acid reflux until I developed a heart problem that was attributed to those tablets then I was told they were for short term use now I just don't feel safe any more
