Fibroscan and blood tests

Hi there

Wondered if anyone could help?

I had a fibroscan a few months ago and results were 8.2 which I understand.

Had lft etc a couple of weeks ago and the results are all normal. However I am unable to have another fibroscan for 2-3 years.

Is this the norm? I wondered if there was any chance the fibroscan result could have improved given lft (alt, ast, ggt 20 or below) improvement but looks like I’ve got to wait quite a while...

Hi namil I was a 21 f4 but with no alcohol and healthy diet no fat a year later went to an 8 f2. They will still monitor me but not so often because my liver is not in danger on an 8. So stop any alcohol and no fat and your liver should be fine.

That’s great news, what a massive change in just a year!

When I had my scan, the blood tests were quite elevated but now they are back to normal ( change in lifestyle).

I’m a worrier and am anxious to know if the fibroscan results would also have changed. To wait 2-3 years for another scan will mean constant worrying.

I wondered if this was the norm and whether there is a private option otherwise ?

You could pay for another fibroscan but if they’re saying 2-3 years it’s probably because you’re not in danger. You should have ultra sounds every 6 months to look for lumps and bumps and measure the organs

I guess so but I will worry, I’m sure!

I had to ask for another ultrasound, which will probably be in 2 to 3 months time, I’m not sure it would have been offered otherwise.

I was told at time of initial scan that I had some long term liver damage (that’s what result reading showed it seems, along with bloods) but then told when getting blood results this time that it can improve (pretty sure said reversible) which I find difficult to understand - to me long term damage doesn’t sound reversible!

I think I’m going to try and see where fibroscans are available privately and pay for one (although I still may not like result at least I won’t be worrying for a couple of years whilst waiting).

Thanks for your help. X

Did your doctor suggest a no fat diet? It is my understanding that sugar not fat is harmful to the liver? and fat is only harmful if from processed foods like artificial trans fat.

Hi there

The doctor said to make lifestyle changes. Not to drink alcohol and to lose weight.
