Your best idea would be to go along to Citizen's Advice Bureau or your local council Welfare Rights Officer and they will take a look at your circumstances and give advice as to what you might be eligible to apply for.

ESA would have been the go to benefit if you are unable to work due to your health condition and there might be some addition to your Universal Credit.

It all depends on how your condition affects you day to day and what limitations you have either on your capability to work (in the case of ESA) or in the case of Personal Independence Payment how your illness affects you over a whole range of daily living activities and/or mobility issues. The diagnosis itself is unimportant.

CAB or Welfare Rights should be able to carry out a full assessment of your circumstances and offer appropriate advice as benefits system is a mine field. Many benefits though are access gates to other further benefits.

Best wishes,

Katie

Well here in the states, you get nada, I was just turned down this month on my 2nd appeal, called the Request for Reconsideration, for those following along at home. Good luck to you, I sincerely hope you do much better, overall and in regards to your benefits.

Dont be surprised if they say your fit for work.

A diagnosis is one thing but if your considered well enough to work the diagnosis alone is not enough.

Hi,

You may want to contact the Hepatitis C Trust, here is the link;

Hi there .i had hep c all my life and my GP would never consider giving me a sick note for hepatitis.the only time that I’ve ever had anything from him was for cirrosis which the hep c caused and that was just before I needed a TP.but saying that even though I’ve worked all my life and didn’t even know I had the.disease everyone is different .i only found out when I had hepatitis was when my liver started failing.all the best anyway.paul

I had hep c and was claiming ESA for hep c and copd and anxiety and depression I was called for a face to face assessment and the assessor said I was fit to work to DWP I had my esa stopped and had to appeal the DWP did a mandatory reconsideration and didn’t change the decision I went to tribunal and won my appeal but I was awarded esa for my copd not for having hep c even though I was feeling sick and extremely tired on a daily basis so your not entitled to claim benefits for having been diagnosed with hep c it depends on how the illness affects you on a daily basis and if it affects your ability to work
