Hi Jess,
Welcome to the forum.
We appreciate you must be worried, are you due to see your doctor soon? It is important to get clear interpretation of your scans from your own doctor who can talk you through what was seen as well as also looking at your other test results and medical history.
We have some information on NAFLD here;
britishlivertrust.org.uk/li...
If you are in the UK you are also welcome to phone our helpline which is open today until 14.45.
However, in the first instance, it really would be good to try to speak with your own doctor and discuss your scan findings.
Take care and keep us posted,
Trust1
Thank you I am waiting to speak to my docotor about this but I'm terrified of the answer.
Even if it is cirrhosis. It is not a death sentence by any means. Cirrhosis caused by NAFLD can be managed quite well with diet and weight loss. If your liver is compensated than there is no reason why the cirrhosis cannot be slowed down or quite often halted completely.
One must always remember that Cirrhosis itself is not a disease. Rather its a result of the healing process the liver initiates to repair damage caused by the disease. In this case its NAFLD. Remove the disease and over time the inflammation and damage stops and the cirrhosis does not progress.
Hello Jess, what a nightmare your having. When people are in a situation like having an unltrasound, they are quit understandably anxious and want answers there and then.
It should be remembered that the people that are operating the machinery are fully trained in operating the equipment and producing the images. However, they are not trained in interpretation of the image. This persons comments really needs to be taken with a pinch of salt. Try not to work yourself up. When you see your doctor next time, the results will be explained to you. If there is anything untoward, then they'll simply explain the next step.
Trust me, There are a lot of people on here who have been exactly where you are now, and we are all still here to help you every step of the way. Have faith, and don't go thinking the worst, and over think things.
Good luck, just hang on in there.
I am due to have an ARFI scan at the end of the month. The radiologist has to do a full rport on the findings. Only 2 radiographers are qualified to do this scan its specifically for NALD. It all depends on who does the scan as to how qualified they are to comment. I see my liver specialist 2 weeks after My last fibroscan indicated cirrhosis, but my specialist isnt totally convinced. The radiographer will have been told this in the referral. My bloods are all normal which adds to the confusion.
Hi Jess. Don't be afraid, even if it turns out to be cirrosis you can lead a normal life for long enough. I had a good twenty years getting treated by drugs till a complication made a transplant necessary.
You have found the right site to support you Jess liver disease is very complex the liver is a complex organ with so many functions to perform. The radiographer has mentioned this but diagnosis isnt so simple. Most GPs dont have a clue so you need to ask to see a liver specialist. I was obese but now lost some weight and in overweight category. It also depends on where your larger lady parts are. I felt like you when I was told I had cirrhosis. however catching it early means there is lots we can do to stop it progressing. The fixation on waist measurements is for good reason. The higher the size the more chance of developing type 2 diabetes. Fatty liver as well. The prof I saw was very straight speaking. He said you need to lose weight, recommended a low carb. diet for me. If I did this it will reduce my liver fat. He would expect to see me around in 20 years! So many people are totally unaware of liver damage its a silent disease. Mine was caused by methotrexate but the cause becomes irrelevant. Obviously if its alcohol its a must stop drinking. If its being obese its down to the correct way of eating. You will be advised about all this. Cirrhosis has different stages. Finding out sooner means you can do things to help . As you can read in my reply to Richard my liver specialist wants further confirmation that I have cirrhosis. Not common but I have zero symptoms and normal bloods . Once you are properly diagnosed you will be given exactly correct advise for you . We are all different Hazelx
Hi Radnor
I just love the statement “but the cause becomes irrelevant”. I so so agree. They said my cirrhosis was alcohol related and I was never convinced (no biopsies) but in the end I realised why worry about the cause it’s the end result I desperately wanted and needed - the wonderful, for me, life saving transplant...

I just had an us last week and the ultrasound tech looked at me and asked if I had anything to drink that morning I said no and she said it looks like fluid in there. Immediately I thought ascites!! I wrote on here it made me really upset”feeling low” I got my report from the radiologist and it said no fluid found. Wait for the doctors report. I was given advice from these lovely people to distract myself. I watched a few Netflix shows and tried to forget about it. It helped.
