Hi

Hope you feel better soon. It's rotten feeling rough isn't it?

I've got Nash with fibrosis. I've had the runs for a week. Went to drs this morning, she was lovely, she said she dy want to do anything yet as I was hoping that my appointment with consultant would be on the 4th auy after he cancelled one on 12th July cos of an emergency. My Dr said she was quite concerned. Anyway, when I got home , my appointment had arrived, 16th August!!! Phoned my drs back, she'd gone home, they have left her a note for Monday!! Love and hugs Lynne xxxc

Well of-course, you're going to be a hypochondriac you had cancer. Once, you go through that, you develop a anxiety disorder. Every time something pops up, oh no whats this! It's standard psychology, obviously your doctor didn't study human behavior enough. I'm glad you beat cancer, did you have a fibroscan on your liver recently to get a number on how much hepatic steatosis (liver fat) you have?

No I have a referral in the pipeline to see a heptologist, I go away on holiday to Turkey for two weeks and I'm stressing if I'll be ok to go, I've gone fat free and bought a supplement to boost my liver I'm not in as much pain and don't intend drinking alcohol. I'll just have to eat healthy and try to enjoy it

Hi Cazmat25

We hope that the hepatologist is able to assess you and send you for the investigations you may need.

A quick comment on the 'liver supplement' you mention you have bought.

The British Liver Trust does not recommend the use of homeopathic or herbal remedies for those with any liver problems as these have to be processed by the liver and could actually damage the liver.

More research needs to be done on the use and safety of such remedies and therapies.

If you are considering using complementary or alternative remedies &/or therapies always discuss this with your own doctor who is best placed to safely advise you.

I agree with BLT, the issue with supplements are many come from China and have fillers in them that aren't on the label. Here in the U.S the supplements say, not FDA approved, it's a way for them to avoid a law suit just in case something happens. I'd wait to see the hepatologist and then take all direction from him or her. When I was sick, I was told by the Mayo Clinic don't do the herbal supplements. I was diagnosed with a spinal cord tumor a while back, ever since then my anxiety had been very difficult to control.

I did research them I've only been taking them for the last few days so will look into them more I've always known milk thistle helped the liver so hopefully I haven't made things worse confused and worried. Thank you for taking the time to reply and I'm sorry you are going through so much yourself x

I’ve never tried it Michael but I’ve heard that milk thistle can do more harm than good. There needs to be more study into it.

Cheers,

Brett

I haven't heard of any harmful effects of milk thistle, only positive, and in overwhelming fashion. Can you please post some reference links? I think like any supplement, you need to be cognizant as to the dose.

Regards,

-Michael

Here what does work well, Beets. They are loaded with glutathione, which is the largest antioxidant in the body. It helps heal liver hepoatocytes and metobolize toxic chemicals in the body through the p53 pathway. Artichokes, they have natural selenium in them which is found in milk thistle. Eggs, have choline in them. The liver loves choline, it helps it rebuild and makes it strong. Alot of this stuff you can get from a natural diet, low fat fish and you can buy tumeric and grind it up. Medical professionals used to day eggs were bad for you. Now, it's recently understood that they increase good cholesterol and lower bad cholesterol.
