I did my usual ultrasound which was the same as I’ve pretty posted . My bloods are good . The consultant again said I might not live long still . I’m active a healthy weight yes I’ve had too much alcohol in the past and am sorry for that. I feel like what’s the point and may aswell go sooner so it makes my loved ones feel better and get over me sooner .
so scared again: I did my usual... - British Liver Trust
so scared again
Hi Etymolog
I had an ultrasound and they found four 1cm lumps on my liver. My consultant then sent me for an MRI, and everything was OK (for someone with cirrhosis) nothing had deteriorated. So instead of having an ultrasound every six months I am now being sent for MRI's as they are more accurate. Perhaps you could ask your consultant to send you for MRI's instead of ultrasound's in the future? I'm not a medical person, but MRI's seem to be the right avenue for me to go down. Perhaps it might be for you? Good luck from Mike
Hi Etymology, I’m sorry to hear about your experience. Can you ask to see a different consultant? he really doesn’t sound as if he’s doing your mental health any good. The thing with livers is that they are notoriously unpredictable so given the steps you are taking to look after yourself, you could live a normal lifespan. No one knows how long they’ve got with or without liver disease. I’m sure your loved ones want you hear as long as possible. My Mum died 3 years ago on 4th July from PBC aged 75 and I definitely don’t feel like I feel better and have gotten over her sooner. Get that thought right out of your head. Please do talk to someone about how you’re feeling. Big Hug
Etymolog good day.
In everyone life, there is a time of difficult moments. If we can manage to overcome in a wise way, then we will see new path opening in our lives.
Please do not give up.
I’m wishing you all the very best 🙏🏾💯
I would ask him what he means by LONG because with liver disease no one an tell how long every one is different some people last years
You’ve had some great advice already. Unless your consultant is called God (and not that he thinks his name is God!) then on life expectancy he simply can’t tell. He cannot accurately predict when and if your liver will or will not become decompensated. You sound like you’re doing all the right things to ensure it doesn’t and your bloods and scans are all testament to that. That’s all you can do other than change your consultant, which I’d advise. I’m in the same place as you…liver is stable and compensated. My consultant is very honest about his limitations on life prediction….he tells me no one can tell. I could leave the clinic after my appointment and get run over by an ambulance….but it’s more likely that we’ll be seeing each other and get steadily greyer together, providing I continue on my side of the bargain and leave alcohol alone.
