Sleep ....or the lack of it
Just sleep when you can...
There isn't much medicine wise you can have with liver problems and I tried all the sleep music / sounds and all the usual advice and it never worked its all part and parcel unfortunately it flips your sleep routine on it's head and ad long as you get some during the day
Hi , well I've not been to bed "normally " for 3 years now. I never used to have sleep problems, I have cirrhosis 11 years , I take it as my normal way of life now .if I'm not tired im up watching TV, if I feel sleepy then I'll go to bed .
I do however have a nap during the day , i have to or i would get all anxious and irritable, i do nod off aswell and dont know till I have woken .
I tried the reading, hot drinks, music etc.. gave up in the end .
You will find it will be something you learn to live with
Hello and welcome. I had sleep problems, and was prescribed Amitriptyline, and they work very well for me. Hope this helps,
David
Hi Sallydog1,
My husband's liver doctor said sleep disturbances is common with liver disease. Hubby takes a variety of pills for his liver disease, along with stuff for high blood pressure and tingling in his hands and feet. He still gets up about once a night, but he does have more sleep lately.
Wishing you the best,
Mary
Hi, can you tell me what he is taking for his tingly hands and feet and hands please? Mine are numb all the time, especially on the soles of my feet.
Thanks
Ross
Hi Ross,
His VA doctor [he has a GP, his liver doctor, and a Veteran's Admin. doctor] recommended Alpha Lipoic Acid, which is over the counter, so he takes 1 tablet at night with 600mg - he takes the 600mg instead of a lower mg more times per day because he hates taking pills.
Hubby thinks it helps.
Definitely ask your doctor before you even buy anything and if your doctor oks taking it see if he/she has a suggestion for what level to start
Don't forget your doctor knows more about your condition - I always ask hubby's doctors when I see something on here that sounds helpful for him because even over the counter can interfere with other drugs he takes or even make his condition worse!
Best wishes,
Mary!
