Is it Good Or Bad...Out Of The List

Hi All,

This is a very resourceful useful group.

My Hepatologist put me in transplant list for cirrhosis. My Mels score was 18 then with INR 1.8 and Total billirubin 3.5

I was out of drinks for an year..now I have meld score 1.4 Nd total billirubin 2.3 since last 6 months. I have not other symptoms except varices 2 yrs back.

Since my meld score is 1.4 and maintaining it. I was out of the list.

Is it good or a bad sign.

Thanks

Kranti

Hi Kranti, Congratulations on a job well done! It seems you are doing much better now that you're not drinking. Being ON the transplant list means you're closer to liver failure, being OFF the list means your liver is functioning, to the degree that your symptoms have been reduced, in your case (and mine too) to varices, which I am told is manageable, with mainly non-invasive procedures. I have not experienced any bleeds, and hope the same for you. Best wishes for your continued health!

Hi,

Thanks for your post. Were you on the list before, and out of the list now?

Do you have chirossis? I have but now symptoms at all like return of varices, swelling,

Ascites? I am fine, but just the psychological thought that i have chirossis.

What if my Meld score increases..is the process the same again.

Thanks

K

Hey K,

Yes I have cirrhosis. MELD score 8 at last 6 month follow-up Jan. 2019, never on the list, diagnosed Oct. 2016. It is my understanding that if my symptoms warrant but I am otherwise stable and healthy, I could be put on the list. And since you're young and improving, your liver may remain in a state that functions well despite it's condition, forever, if you do not drink, smoke or consume too much sugar, which the liver can't use or eliminate efficiently due to insulin resistance. It is really important now to change your diet and start treating your body like a vessel that you must prepare for the next voyage, whatever that may be.

Hi, I think it’s certainly a good sign that your bloods have improved and they have taken you off the list, your liver is functioning better. You keep on going in the right direction 👍 all the best to you 🌻.

Hi Kranti123,

I think it is a good thing to come off the transplant list.

Congrats on doing well.

Best,

Mary

Hi.

You need to look at your meld score again. MELD starts at six and uses whole numbers only.

Have a look here;

You don’t need to be worried. They should test your meld score every three months. Meld can go up or down. Continue with what you are doing and it may decrease. It is a good sign that you are off the list. Cirrhosis does not mean transplant all the time.

Cheers,

Brett
