Sore throat

Hello, my fiancé had 2 varices banded in March. The last few weeks his throat has felt sore off and on, mostly when he coughs. He isn’t sick at all, no cold, but he is a smoker and smokes too much. Can varices feel like a sore throat? I know to see the doctor, I’m just wondering if any of you have had the same thing. Thanks.

Could be gastro reflux, does he eat greek yogurt at all. See if that helps. It seems to for me.

Hi

Sorry your fiance isn't well. I haven't had this done so I'm not sure what happens, I just wanted you to know I was thinking of you. Let me know how he gets on please. Love and hugs Lynne xxxx

Hi

I'm in quite a bit of pain tonight with all the conditions I have. I'm hurting all over. Very painful around my liver area but I'm not due to see my consultant until February!! I'm waiting for an appointment at wythenshaw where they will inject electrodes, even my own Dr told me to ask what the success rate is, she said you don't want to feel worse than you do now!!! How are and your partner feeling tonight? Love and hugs Lynne xxxx

That’s a long time to wait to see your consultant! I hope you’re feeling better today though, I’m sorry you’re hurting 😔 having anything injected sounds scary and painful so I hope what you decide is the absolute best thing for you. We are doing well, it’s a super sunny day here today and I have the windows open so all 3 of my cats can enjoy the fresh air. They’re currently running from the bottom of the house to the top, over and over and over, and it’s adorable haha ♥️

I know!! My appointment at wythenshaw came the other week, 17th July!! I phoned appointments today, I'm now on the 29th May!!! Don't get anywhere without asking!! Love and hugs Lynne xxxx

Never felt like that for me. I've had a few done as well. All the best:)

Could be tonsillitis. I got tonsillitis when my liver was struggling. A doctor should check his throat.

Thanks guys! I was worried it could be varices and knew not to google it unless I wanted to have a complete meltdown all over again 😉 hopefully it’s just a regular old boring sore throat that will clear up fast.

Phoenix he doesn’t like Greek yogurt unless it’s cooked into something sadly. He also has a toothache so I’m going to see about making him a healthy shake in a bit. Thank you for the suggestion 😊

If there is a toothache involved as well than it could be due to a bacterial infection. I know many people on here have had oral health issues with cirrhosis.

But get some of the greek yogurt into the smoothies. Alot if people hate it on its own. But It can only do wonders for the GI system anyway even if that isnt the cause of the throat issue. I usually take it and mix it with fresh berries and special k granola. Its like a berry blast parfait. Very delish and healthy. Plus between the yogurt and the granola you get almost 28 g of protien in about 3/4 of a cup! I do this at around 11 am and again at 9 pm. You can even add a splash of unsweetened vanilla almond milk in to thin the density of the yogurt if it helps. I really found it rid of my acid reflux.

Sadly he’s always had issues with his teeth. I personally love his teeth, he has a cute gap in his front ones haha but that’s beside the point I guess. I had made him a lower sodium pizza to fix the craving he’s had and the crust and veggies were pretty crispy so it bothered his tooth. But I am always looking for more ways to incorporate Greek yogurt into foods for him, so much protein in so little! I’m going to try what you suggested, I just hope I don’t eat all of the granola before I make it for him haha

Hi Mywildlove better make sure my other half doesn’t see who I’m texting.lol.ive had numerous banding’s over the years and sore throats are par the course.but In saying that after a week of eating soft foods it usually cleared. on my last lot I felt a lump half way down my throat for weeks which is really unnerving.it seemed to be down the right side like the endoscopy had hit something it shouldn’t.it has cleared up but having cirrhosis and all it’s symptoms make’s you paranoid about any ache and pain in my case anyway.hopefully it’ll clear up for him if it’s not just go to his GP’s and get it checked.wish you both well.paul

Hahaha! Thank you for the laugh Popel, I needed that!

I don’t think it’s from the banding, he was eating donuts as soon as it was over (a promised treat that rarely happens) and he had zero pain or uncomfortableness afterwards. I of course still worry about the bands coming off. He’s one of those people who won’t see a doctor unless he has to so getting him to agree to just get his throat checked out has been frustrating. Thank you so much for replying by the way 😊

Wow! Doughnuts?perhaps his throat was still numb from the procedure.personally I’d jump through hoops to get to the doctor any ache or pain and I’m there.paul

I’ve had about 20 bandings. I find that the further up they are, the more they hurt and take longer to heal. My last lot took over two weeks to get back to normal. I did lose weight though.

Cheers,

Brett

If its on and off yes it could be down to smoking. Can't comment on varices as not been affected. One thing that causes my throat to hurt is exhaustion. I suffer from ME and fibro. Always the left side of my throat thats affected. Cirrhosis can also cause fatigue so thats another possibility. I call it my tired throat Hazelx
