Paleness

Just seeking opinions. In January this year i was told that i have Fibrosis. So i changed my diet and lost around 12 kg. Since loosing weigh i have been told by 4 different people that i look pale. I went to GP he did the full blood count and other test including Bilirubin and told me that all bloods are in normal range. So the question is if one can still look noticeably pale even with normal blood results and if yes why? your opinion will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Careful1. Maybe you just need some daily fresh air and exercise now?

Hi Laura009, I am not concerned what people say. Just wanted to know if one looks paler with liver disease

in reply to carefull1

Thats something that can happen in all disease and yes sure it could happen with normal blood tests if the cause of you being pale isnt caused by your disease. Alot of times paleness in disease is caused by lack of oxygenation in the blood circulation or issues with the red blood cells. Sometimes the fix can be just some sun and exercise as exercise helps with blood circulation and oxygenation. This is recommended as a therapy even if it is caused by disease

Thanks for hearing me. When did you find out and what is your diagnosis?

in reply to carefull1

No problem. I didnt actually get a diagnosis of cirrhosis till end pf december but i knew i had liver disease in march of 2018. For the first 9 months they were certain it wasnt cirrhosis but they were wrong.

How did you get the diagnosis (ct, blood test us sacan)? And how you knew you had lover disease? Sorry to ask many questions. I am trying to understand and learn.

in reply to carefull1

Well the initial diagnosis was alcoholic hepatitis with fatty liver. Then an ultrasound in December revealed signature cirrhosis characteristics.

What is your diagnosis?

Mine are mixed messages. Initial Fibrosis, Faty liver and haemangeoma through us. CT normal. Fibrosis normal then ELF blood test fibrosis F2. I have pain under right rib cage, radiating to back and right shoulder. I also have strong itch on back at times and a lot of memory issues. LFTs were very high to begin with but now normal. Since ELF TEST I have not seen a liver specialist. Appointment on 26 April. I think it Fibrosis . Thanks for chat, makes me feel that I am not alone.

Looking pale may be different from looking yellow which is a sign of jaundice looking pale is a general comment I wouldn’t get too worried if I were you

If alcohol was the cause then yes you will definitely look pale by comparison to the red lobster look 👍

Hi, I have always been pale, some Friends even compare me to a vampire because I’m so pale but that’s just me! Similar situation to you but having swapped an unhealthy lifestyle for a healthy one, regular exercise and healthy eating, pain in right side has gone, itching has gone, ELF tests have reduced substantially and gone into normal range as have LFTs and I’ve lost a fair bit of weight. I had to wait ages to see a liver consultant and by the time I did everything had improved and liver is regenerating. I still have a long way to go but everything is improving. If you read other posts you will see how a major lifestyle change can improve things. Sorry gone off track a bit but hope this helps, Owlie x

Hi Owlie, Thanks for such a positive and encouraging post. Can you please tell me how much weight you lost and what was your initial diagnosis?

Hi careful, interestingly enough no one has actually said “ you have this...” I have fat in my liver and had a high fibrosis score. Initial blood tests last September flagged it, ELF and LFTs, I lost 2.5 stone by Christmas and saw the Consultant at the end of January. I have been told my liver is regenerating and should heal fully, I completely freaked when I had my blood test results as, please forgive me everyone, I don’t drink and I only thought alcohol damaged livers...so not true. My Dr said fatty liver disease is the new diabetes. I have been very very luck and have only got through it with the support of the wonderful members on here. My consultant was really impressed with the improvement and was very keen to find out how I did it. I still keep up the healthy lifestyle and exercise and feel so much better. I still have more weight to lose and repeat bloods in April, if you search you will see there are others on here who have had similar results when changing to a healthier lifestyle. I hope this helps and feel free to message me if you need to, Owlie

Hi careful and owlie, I lost about 35lb last year doing a fasting, low carb, highish fat diet. I was then diagnosed with anaemia then cirrhosis. My hepatologist told that I must never fast as it stresses the liver. I have gained about 20lb back and need to get rid of the weight. I have fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis so exercise is virtually impossible. Can you tell me what sort of eating plan you did?
