Hi, new here. My tocilizumab infusions keep pushing my ALT high. Am off for a liver scan. However, I wondered if there is anything I can do to help it lower.
Can you lower ALT enzyme?: Hi, new here... - British Liver Trust
Can you lower ALT enzyme?

None of us are medically qualified to comment on this, however you could mention to your pharmacist re side effects you may be experiencing . Blood tests alone do not give a full picture, Once you ave ad your scan this will form part of you being diagnosed. My bloods all show normal but I know I have fibrosis. Question mark over whether its cirrhosis.Worth taking someone with you when your seen as they can help you take results in. Not drinking aloohol is perhaps a wise move, Its toxic and has the potential to damage your liver. Hazelx
Heya Sheepish, unfortunately I would tend to think that if for certain it is the tocilizumab causing the alt elevations than unless you stopped taking it the alt will not come back down. I am guessimg you are taking it for rheumatoid arthritis? There are other medications on the market as well. Perhaps ask your doctor if one of these other drugs could be used in its place with the same efficiency? Or as Hazel has said mention it to your pharmacist and see what they say.
Best of luck!

Thanks. Yes I have Rheumatoid Arthritis. I was just wondering because the toci works well with few side effects and I have had lots of problems with other drugs. Am off for liver scan tonight, then back to Rheumatology.
The alt elevations from it could be transient though. Meaning it wont harm your liver neccesarily.
