Lactulose

Anyone taking Lactulose for constipation? I was prescribed it after not having a bowel movement for 10 days and no relief. Now today I called my dr. and they doubled the dose for me to take. If I don't go by tommorow I have to go in and have them take exrays. This is so embarresing especially if they want to take it out manually!

I started by taking magnesium citrate but that didn't help either.

Any suggestions?

Thanks Lynne, yes I have tried Senna tea. Its called Smooth Move if you haven't heard of it. I am in California, I've just figured out I am at a British website...

I got a little relief last night after drinking a gallon of GalviLyte-C in 2 hours. Nothing to get excited about....I still feel plugged up:(

Tonite I will go to get an upper colon cleanse. That ought to do it.

Dont be embarrassed at all because trust me option 2 is far worse. 4 weeks ago I realised I had not passed wind and my tum was swelling. I looked 9 months with triplets. I couldn't go in spite of taking laxatives . My daughter came around and immediately said i'm dialling 999. Im a good nurse but a bad patient but we both knew what the problem was. 15 years ago my Mum was rushed into hospital with the exact same symptoms, cold sweats, vomiting vile body products and pain like no other! She had emergency surgery due to a bowel blockage and twisted bowel, it can be fatal, especially if it bursts! It can happen to anyone, its not genetic but both my daughter and I knew it was serious. After 3.5 hours still no ambulance. My daughter rang again and because a doctor rang in between the cancelled ambulance. Another 3 hours past and my daughter was ready to explode, fortunately the paramedics arrived. I arrived in A and E at 3.30am. Within 5 minutes I was on my way to theatre for a 5 hour emergency op. I have a scar to equal a lot of combatants, and its not something I would like to repeat. If you still have not been and you have the symptoms above go to A and E. Its not common so not trying to scare you, but you need checking out. Hope its not a blockage, Hazelx

Well....I have to be honest...after my nite of being up to go...I feel pretty good. Not quite satisfied with having the outcome but feel okay to wait till tomorrow to get my upper colon cleanse.

My husband took me to get everything a girl should need....Prunes, metamucil, Calm (magnesium). I will never let this happen again. It is horrible. Thank goodness I have a understanding hubby. He is from Surrey by the way.

I had major surgery. Subsequently, the adhesions caused a blockage such as yours. Then, that surgery resulted in more surgeries for the same reason. It is extremely painful as you know. Hope she follows your advice.

Try Kefir. Its fermented milk and fab for gut health. You can buy it in most shops now which will get you going - excuse the Pun! I make my own, which is better than the shop brought ones, but it is an acquired taste! Shop ones are very nice though, a little like Yakult or Actimel. I take it regularly so it sorts me out all the time.
