Hi all apart from my fatty liver issue, I am having issue for more than a month with my ear clogged up. The doctor says my eardrum is puffed out and has some fluid accumulation in the middle ear. He gave me a set of steroids which didn't help and now has given me a higher dosage of steroids. I am afraid to take them. I told him about my condition of liver. he said it doesn't effect it but i have read otherwise. I have to get hearing test done to see if there is pressure which is causing the eardrum to be puffed, just curious if any of u had to take steroids and what was your experience. thanks all.

I have autoimmune hepatitis and cirrhosis. I'm due to start taking steroids to reduce inflammation in my liver. So for my liver it's a positive thing but I don't know if it's different if you don't have cirrhosis. Hopefully someone will be along soon with more useful advice than I can offer.
Is it prednisalone that you’ve been prescribed. I have liver cirrhosis and had to take 60mg of prednisalone a day at one stage due to a lung condition. It was ok but I was closely monitored by my Hepatology team. If you are under a Herpatologist I would just give them a call for a second opinion as they and your GP know what other medications that you are on and are more medically qualified. Remember Dr Google is ok for information but does not know your personal medical history like a trusted GP or consultant. Good luck
Steroids are used to bring down inflammation in the Liver and prednisolone is just one of them. They are not just used when someone has cirrhosis either and are given at all stages of liver disease.
You can check with the dispensing pharmacy in the first instance as they are well placed to see what other meds you are on. For peace of mind, a doctor is better placed to confirm the correct dosage and meds than Google. There are plenty of pages out there with so called " facts" that are actually incorrect. Best to avoid them and get professional medical help. Hope this reassures you.
For the record many meds will say on the information sheet, not to be taken if you have liver problems, but they will be fine to take and will be prescribed. One of my consultants told me that they regularly have conversations with GPs about this and occasionally will have GPs who are unwilling to accept that these meds are safe to take.
When you cone off the steroids, you should be tapered down 5mg at a time, until you get to 5mg once a day. At this point, you will either go to 0 or come down at 1mg one day.
Side effects vary according to which one are given and how you personally react to them.
It probably depends on the steroid in question and the reason for use. Many people with an auto-immune liver disease will be taking steroids to control liver inflammation. My hubby is on a maintenance dose of 5mg Prednisolone daily just to keep any small rises of inflammation in check.
thank you all for your response, I have been prescribed prednisolone. it really isnt helping for my ears I am scheduling an appointment with the ENT to find out why its not helping will update as i get to know.
