I'm looking to get help with my continuing recovery and SMART Recovery has been recommended to me by my local substance/alcohol service.
It claims to be a science based approach (which appeals to me) and also they say they avoid using stigmatising words like 'addict' and 'alcoholic'.
They have daily meetings nearby to me.
Has anyone had personal experience of using this service, what was the general vibe, was it useful.
BTW it's a charity trust setup
Many thanks
Gary

Garyvh, anything that works for you, can only be a good thing. I totally agree of the stigmatisation of these labels people like to put on others. I personally dislike putting those people who have a drug problem along side those with an alcohol issue. Not all people who have a drink problem are addict's. The two conditions (Drugs & Alcohol) are not the same, and should be treated separately.
Thanks Richard. I must admit I'm wary of AA, although I'm completely aware that it's been a huge force for good in so many people's lives, it's just not my cup of tea.
I like the sound of SMART as it's science based and I usually run a mile from anything that even vaguely smells of snake-oil!

I used it, it is the model used by the NHS, Prison and Probation Services due to the perception of non religious bias. I found it really helpful, the theory is good and you share common experiences. They also offer one to one.
Give it a try and see what you think, it’s not compulsory.
Some of it is pants but it gets you thinking about what your doing to yourself.
Sometimes I wondered why the hell I was going there listening to all this but after a while it started to click into place.
Dont expect daily meetings, theres set moduals on different days depending on what stage your at but someone is available most days if your having difficulties.
Probably about 6 weeks in before I thought this could work
AA and SMART can be mixed so consider going to both
