Fibroscan/PBC update

Dear All

Following my very recent fibroscan this week, I now have written confirmation that I do not have PBC although my recent 7 months of blood tests have indicated this. My fibroscan was good! Cap 259 with IQR at 26 ! Kpa 4.8 at its lowest and 5.5 Kpa median - IQR 0.6 . I'm addressing the fat in my liver which I think is between 11 to 33% based on the web Cap scales. However, if I've miss understood the Cap Scale it does no harm to carry on with the healthy eating anyway.

An MRI appointment of my bile duct has been requested to see whether I may have a build up of SLUDGE in my bile duct or something else.

Due to the dull toothache like pain between the centre of my ribs and pale/sandy coloured poo's (sorry about this comment) I've been instructed to take paracetamol to help with the discomfort if necessary. This I'm trying to avoid as I'm not keen on taking tablets unless necessary.

I've managed to loose 4 lbs in weight from the 2 stone target this week which I'm pleased with. I'm still trying to attend the gym as much as possible ( 4 days this week)

I will keep you all updated with my progress ! Again thanks to those following me and to my wonderful liver nursing specialist Charlotte Owen at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for her kindness!!!!!!

Regards Slaines

Cheers Elaine ! Let's hope they find the problem causing the abnormal blood tests and discomfort! At least my liver is in the normal kpa and Cap ranges but a bit fatty I think.

Keep me updated on your quest for book on liver health!

Best wishes Slaines

Hi All!

Lucky me! Received call from Royal Shrewsbury Hospital last night asking if I was free this Thursday for MRI on my bile duct/pancreas area! Of course I accepted so my fingers are crossed that this highlights whats wrong. My toothache discomfort has eased which I'm not sure is a good thing or not with scan now forecasted ...

Will keep you all updated

Regards Slaines

Slaines - I was hoping to ask your thoughts on thh 259 Cap reading, because you seem ok with it but my doc made me quite uncomfortable for having that reading. How do you interpret such a reading? Many thanks, Bob

Hi Bob

I interpret my cap of 259 to be bad at level 1. I think level 2 kicks in at a Cap reading of 260 and above, therefore I'm addressing this by exercising more and eating less rich food such as double cream and cheese!!! Unfortunately one of my hobbies is cooking and entertaining and rich foods have always been some of my main ingredients!

5 months ago I retired from my 40 year career in construction and project management running my own company! As I have itchy feet and cannot still for 7 days a week I've decided to train as cookery teacher at the young age of 66 Lol! So hopefully you can guess my kitchen presently is packed with healthy cookery books as I want to teach the younger generation of eating healthy!!

I'm prepared for the scolding from my liver consultant and my GP 're my CAP reading when I see them next, but for now I'm heading in the right direction by eating healthy and losing weight as I go along! I'm a size 14 which is not a bad size but would like to be either a 10 or 12 again.

Can I ask what was your CAP reading???

Regards Slaines ...
