So, this happened yesterday, despite having all these awful symptoms.. liver nurse was pleased with this result but she was also a bit confused as I have grade 1 varices, weightloss, raised ALT & GGT, fatigue, HE symptoms & all the abdominal / back pain.
Any idea what the next step for my consultant will be?
Does this mean I have no scarring??

Fibroscan of 4 in some conditions relates to no fibrosis (F0), the highest it would go to is (F1) so very early changes. I would hope your consultant is going to do further follow up. Somethings not right quite obviously, but, what is anyones guess. Best wishes for getting further answers.

It has been documented that given enough time even cirrhotic livers can produce normal fibroscan results as sometimes the liver becomes soft again. I can send you a study the NCIB did on just this topic. They basically studied patients who had 75kpa scores that returned to normal range kpa on fibroscan even though liver biopsy still confirmed cirrhosis. This is why I always stay firm that fibroscans are not for diagnosis but merly a tool to aid in it. By no means am I saying the score is wrong or that you have scarring. Just letting you know that these scores have happened in the presence of cirrhotic liver states. Also btw fibroscans have also yielded scores that would suggest extreme scarring in people with active hepatitis that do not have cirrhosis. So the door can swing both ways
Well i'm gonna request to be referred to QE Bham for 2nd opinion next time I speak to him ( hopefully soon) Been feeling so sick today and I have no appetite
My gastro consultant will contact me once he's received the results... hope he takes my symptoms seriously as I'm worried now my fibro score is low he won't refer me to hepatolgist. I feel so poorly... I don't even feel like the same person anymore.. the last 3 months have been a blank page.
