Hi,

Yes, at my worst I had pain all over my ribcage, so much so that I thought I was cracking rib's all the time.

One night in particular, turning over a bit too abruptly in bed I rember it feeling like the right hand side of my ribcage was being ripped away from my insides!

Very scary and painful.

Are you seeing a dietician? They will usually prescription e you a fortified drink, Frutisip or similar, which is high in both calories and protein.

Hope this helps.

Just to expand on my previous reply:

With your weight loss as it is, you have probably lost a lot of muscle mass and possibly don't have sufficient muscle support around the ribcage and back.

If you strain one of the intercostal muscles that support you ribs, this can definitely feel like a fracture, and take just as long to heal.

Thank you very much for your reply Gary, much appreciated.

Yeah the loss of muscle mass probably explains why my legs hurt so much after going on a short walk! Top of my neck / spine also hurts like hell. Cant tell if the back pain is related to the kidneys or not.. I have heard that liver disease can cause the kidneys to take a pounding. So much pain and discomfort all over really.. not taking any painkillers as I don't want to put any more strain on my liver.

Hi ktan49

We are sorry to read how much pain you are in. Can your liver specialist consider referring you to the hospital pain team for assessment?

We would also suggest to discuss referral to a hospital registered dietitian for a specific diet plan and guidance.

Warm wishes
