Hi everyone:)So i had my 4th endoscopy and banding of varices.Question is why sometimes they hurt bad after banding and sometimes its not!after my 3rd banding i was ready to eat sandwiches in few days, and this time even baby pured food from jars is hurting so badly:(Thank you
Again varices banding: Hi everyone:)So i... - British Liver Trust
Again varices banding
I was told that the pain comes from the ulceration of tissue. Can't explain why it is worse sometimes than others (I have experienced this too).
Maybe is the position of varices or something.Ech i have to survive.one day i hope they are gone
I'm with you on that one. I hate endoscopies
It’s 21st century,why they can’t invent much thiner tube:)))
I was told that the further up the bandings are, the more they will hurt. My bandings have always been fine. I could eat etc with no pain at all. My last round of bandings sent me back to A&E. They gave me strong morphine and that didn’t work. It hurt like buggery for 2 weeks.
Cheers,
Brett
Oh my:(I hope it’s not going to be that bad.For how long you have them?Is it posible for them just to be gone one day?
It can take a while. My hubbie first presented with 7 burst varices April 2012. He was banded every few months after that for nearly a year at local hospital then when transferred to Edinburgh his consultant went 'aggressive' on the banding regime. In June 2014 he had his first all clear endoscopy after a total of 42 bands and his varices were deemed to be eradicated. He isn't on a beta blocker. Hubby now only has yearly endoscopies and sadly July this year consultant noted some 'barely visible varices' in the upper oesophagus .......... no treatment at the moment, back in July next year.

Oh so they can eradicate and then reappear?I was very naive to believe after they are gone they gone.I suppose better i start to take it as “another one for life” (i hope long life).Fingers crosed for your husband varices to stay small. All the best xx
I was told not to worry about my last endoscopy. You will be grade 1 they said. Wrong!! 3 bandings and stage 3 varices again.
How annoying:(But i keep hoping everytime to hear them saying “its no varices,Indre” :)))Ech
I think varices come part and parcel with cirrhosis. I don’t think they will ever fully clear. You can get TIPS surgery done to stop varices but the side effect is an increase of hepatic encephalopathy or HE as we call it in the trade.
Cheers,
Brett
Yes i heard about TIPS,but probably it’s to early for that, and definitely i dont want to get HE🤦🏼♀️stupid cirrhosis and all autoimmune hepatitis
Brett - thought I always call it HE because I can’t remember hepatotic encaphopophy
