Has anyone been on a short flight after having osphagus varicies banding? I've had 8 varicies banded over the last two months but have been told today I'm ok for another month. Is it safe to fly? Any opinions on this
Best wishes

It's best to check with your doctor to see what the state of play is with your varices. If they give you the go ahead then you should be ok. However, we have had people on here who's plane has had to land as a medical emergency after varices burst mid-flight due to cabin pressure though that was a bit more long haul.
Give your specialist secretary a ring to check.

Hi Kate
Thankyou for your reply, my heamtologist said I'm fine to fly as it's only 2 hours but gastronomy consultant said he wouldn't recommend it because I wouldn't be able to get insurance. I'm so confused???
Been today to have an endoscopy and everything looks fine. Why doesn't good news last longer than a few seconds.

.......also ring a few insurance companies see what they say
My consultant recommended wearing the compression tights (although I never have- I just forget!)
I had 3 varices banded in December and had to checks in jan and march then told it was then safe to fly . Then 2 weeks later I was in the Maldives so long flights a 7 hour then a 4 hour then a one hour 😊 But you need to Ask your consultant .
